Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
I think you are putting words in my mouth a little. What I'm saying is that a dress code in lodge should work to make all brothers look the same, so they end up on the level and you truly have to look at the internal and not the external since...
Saw below on Phoenixmasonry's facebook page, and just double checked with the video feed from the biannual session and it seems to be legit.
Thought it'd be of interest to brethren in here.
Exciting news today from Washington D.C.! The Supreme Council, 33º, of the Ancient and Accepted...
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
Dresscodes in lodges, if one is instituted, should serve the primary purpose of bringing all brothers down on the level, so you no longer can see the difference between the CEO and the garbage man. I personally like this idea a lot.
I will...
Thanks for the info. Might have to see if I can track some of those sessions down. Now that we are on the committee of work I've got some more silly questions. Is every DI member of the COW or? If not how big is it, and is the members of this (and other committees for that matter) listed anywhere?
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
Dues and Masonry is always an interesting discussion that quickly comes out of hand. I don't personally believe in charging a lot just to have high dues, but the fact of the matter is that people often value things more that they pay a little...
If it was in person I might do something about it. However on the internet... well, if you have to fix every single idiot that's out there I hope you have plenty of time on your hands ;)
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
That too, but I meant less formal as I wrote. I.e. going from wearing suits and ties in lodges to polos and jeans. Not eating on the good china to instead having paper plates etc.
Here's an example from Colorado. I know that California and Florida makes them to.

We usually also just get a hold of the DI when we practice or one of the older brethren, but it would be easier if one could just get a written copy.
Does Texas have any sort of written guide for floorwork for the degrees? I know that several Grand Lodges put out guides, but can't seem to find one for Texas.
Get a hold of Old Tyler Talks. You can usually find an electronic copy online. Lot of good short stories that highlights key masonic principles. Excellent read.
Also the Freemasonry for Dummies and an Idiots guide to Freemasonry are good to learn more about the craft and Fraternity.
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
And this is true. Personally I believe that a more Traditional form of Masonry is what the craft needs. Over the last 30 years we've become less formal, more relaxed, have tried everything from lower dues to one day classes and it hasn't...
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
And I share your opinion on that and it is the kind of masonry I seek. However I don't want to look down on Masons that do not share my opinion. The beauty of masonry is that it is to a large extent a personal journey and there is a lot of...
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
My main issue with the whole discussion is the amount of push back that the moment is seeing from freemasonry in general. If some masons want to meet, dress up nicely, have fancy meals, moments of silence process in etc. I don't have a problem...
Re: Traditional observance lodges are they good fo
I've been to a couple of meetings in more traditional or observant lodges, and I personally like the format.
In many ways they are not necessarily that different from what you are used to, it is just a more solemn, serious and deep approach to...
Do a couple of searches in the forum and on Freemasons for dummies and you'll find plenty of discussions about it.
Very short version is that blue lodge and Shrine got in a fight, and Shrine voted to drop the MM requirement.
I think the above part of your post is the problem and where most masons fail. See we are in fact NOT supposed to judge the thoughts, words or deeds of a brother mason. We are in fact supposed to do the complete opposite.
The VSL and the rest of the working tool are things that we should...
Just a quick note, but a masonic passport is actually very, very common in many European jurisdictions. When they see our standard note from the secretary and our dues card they always look at it funny...
Brother Rhitland is not completely incorrect, but I personally think that what many GL have missed is that we are living in the age of information and communication. It isn't enough to send a news letter out every 6 months. Members want more and closer involvement.
I think most Mason would...
