Brother Pete Normand,JR on the Traditional Lodge Model

Any chance there is an electronic copy of this article anywhere that could be shared?

Petition for Joint Recognition and Visitation

I think this is a great initiative, but have to ask the question if we're certain that both sides actually want this? I was at an event this weekend and met with some more knowledgeable brothers who told me that a large part of the hangup with moving this forward is coming from PHA. Apparently...

    Endowments in Texas

Thanks to Tim for the clarification. I completely agree with the last comments. And to Jwhoff, above I also agree with this. I've always personally felt that low dues and going through the degrees too fast shouldn't be what masonry is about or what it offers. As on of my Brothers often say "If...

    Endowments in Texas

Tim, Could you please enlighten us a bit more? To be honest I think that not planning ahead is one of the main reasons why so many lodges are in the financial problems that we see today. The whole endowment concept is a case of just thinking that the market would keep going up and that returns...

    Endowments in Texas

I think the other brothers have hit the nail on the head. Endowments were a fantastic idea when they were instituted and return on investment was high. Today they remain a fantastic idea, because it keeps a lot of brethren on the membership records that otherwise would have dropped out years...

    why are Catholics "excommunicated"

I'd bet that back in 1730 the Catholic church was not super wild about Freemasonry, and probably threw us in with all the other devil worshipers and bad people running around back then. If you look at bit at some of the anti masonic websites I'm sure you can find the decree from back then.

    Raised tonight

Big congrats. Now start reading some Wilmhurst, Mackey and the other good masonic authors and you'll get another interesting set of perspectives on what you just went through.

    Understanding

I think I may have written this before, but one of my big credos in life is "Don't argue with idiots. They pull you down to their level and then beat you on experience" and I think that applies here. I don't mind discussing masonry or masonry/religion with people that are open to learning and...

    Communication Between Grand Lodges

As far as I understand you have to go the long way, meaning through your lodge secretary, to the GL secretary who then relays it over to the other jurisdiction. I'm sure it's a leftover form when it was harder to figure out who was clandestine and who was regular, but this process to me is...

    New Companion

York rite is a good series of degrees to go throug, so big congrats. I look forward to actually being able to reflect on them a bit more and spend time on the lessons taught.

    Officer position

If you wish to become an officer I'd suggest two things. First make sure you tell the current leadership that you'd like to become move involved, and secondly start taking initiative to do things. Learn the ritual, start teaching, write a paper for TLR, start a discussion group etc. Nothing...

Freemasonry taught me _________________ (fill in the blank).

Freemasonry has mainly taught me how much more the is to learn, and how difficult it truly is to circumscribe your desires and work to become a better man. It requires constant vigilance. However it has also shown me a path, and my brothers have shown that it is possible. So I take the journey...

    AH-HA Moments

You will have a lot more of those as you progress through Masonry. I recently read some of the books my Wilmhurst, and that was more a less a whole stream of Aha moments for me. That is one of the things that is neat about the craft IMO.

    Lodge Etiquette

I'm always torn about lodge etiquette. In many sense I think the lodge room should be a solemn place not used outside of degrees or meetings, and where there is no horseplay or anything taking place. On the other hand I also think that joking and friendly banter brings us closer together as...

Dignified Lodge Practices Approved in Colorado

The Chain of Union is a very common part of the masonic ritual in quite a lot of jurisdictions. I know that UK and most of the Nordic contries use it, and it is my impression that Germany and South America has it too. As the Grand Master says. It's actually not innovations. It's returning to...

Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl Commercial Links Freemasonry to Satan

I agree. It's either a deliberate attempt to fast freemasonry in a poor light, or it's some stupid intern in the costume department that grabbed the first 3 rings she could find. Either way I do think the shot was so quick that no one will really notice which is a good thing.

    Traveling

I agree with what TH has posted, but I've also seen the other side of the coin. My lodge was also thirsty for more masonic education so me and another guy started a study group. Everyone though it was a fantastic idea, yet only 5-10 people showed up each time, and that continues to be the case...

I'm with ess1113. Date raised is what I go by.

What started/sparked your interest in going through the chairs

For me it's not the ritual work, but rather the chance to serve the lodge and have a positive influence. I know I'm good at organizing things and putting structure in place, and I think that this would benefit my lodge. And then also the fact that I simply just like doing organizational work.
