Do you agree with the results of Annual Communications

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I don't see the present COW being one that is about giving power to the local lodges to decide what they want to do. On a related note who got elected in for the COW positions?

Any news on how the votes and resolutions went?

Why is it so hard to get Masons to join the Commandery?

And that is something I can greatly respect. But think that the YR will face a challenge to a certain extend if they don't adapt in some ways. We all know that we've got less Masons to go around, and if the ones coming in don't find the present content that interesting they will not join. What...

Why is it so hard to get Masons to join the Commandery?

Above is of course a valid statement, but I think it speaks to the core of the problem. Most young people don't see the point in the Commandery. It seems like an organization dedicated to marching and wearing silly uniforms. And not as the pinnacle of light that the York rite has to offer. I...

    Visiting different countries safely?

I think it depends a lot on the country you're going to. I would take different precautions when going to Germany, Brazil, Egypt and India for instance. But guess the standard things always apply, don't flash your cash and jewelry, make sure you keep your passport and valuables safe. Know where...

    The Royal Order of Jesters

As Glen says I think they are still around various places, but not as prominent any more. And after all the problems and issues they had, a number of masons are taking their distance from them. I certainly know I wouldn't want to be a member if my wife Googled them and read some of the things...

    Swedish Rite

The conversion chart is in the Scottish Rite Ritual and Monitor, but I've put them below. AASR - SR 18 equal to VI 30 equal to VII 32 equal to VIII 33 equal to X The degrees are somewhat similar to the ones in the YR, but mostly in feel not as much in specific content. The part about...

    Masonic Years

Don't think it's really used within the Craft, but below is some info from the UGLE website. Although there have been a number of Masonic dating systems, the most familiar to Craft Freemasons will be Anno Lucis (A.L.), which is the system that appears on certificates. Anno Lucis (the year of...

    charitable activity records

Exactly, which is my point. I don't think that very many lodges or brethren actually fill out the forms that they should. Instead it ends up being a guesstimate at the end of the year...

MWPHGL of Texas Approves Cross Visitation!!!

Great news indeed. And I sure hope an implementation in December will happen.

    charitable activity records

All lodges should send a form 71, but the underlying charitable record is usually a guesstimate made by the audit committee late one evening close to the due date. To be honest I don't think that many lodges track their charitable work very well. I at least haven't seen it. (and I think that if...

    York Rite light

My main advise if you want to join the YR is to take the degrees individually, NOT at a festival. It'll take you a little longer, but you'll get a much more personal and profound experience I think. Personally my brain was totally fried after 3 degrees when I started my YR journed, and I had to...

    York Rite light

Don't think we should turn this into a SR vs YR "which is better" discussion, but will offer some observations. I don't think I can quite agree with your observation there. In fact I find it more that the YR is seen as a stepping stone into getting invitation to the multitude of invitation...

    Sanctum Sanctorum

I think that the SS is slightly selective in who them approve as members. I've tried registering once or twice too, but have never gotten past the initial stage either as you describe.

    Has this occurred?

Thanks for the update. I wasn't aware of this latest move. And I do share your sentiment about hope and past performance spring eternal. Though if the head of the fraternal relations committee is still Pierre Normand you'd think he'd be pushing for it.

    Has this occurred?

I doubt it. But if memory serves me right (and it may very well not) believe the ball is in PHA's corner and the need to respond to the latest invite / letter or something. But guess that could also just be a good excuse to delay an already overdue topic even further.

    De Facto Hierarchy

That is a good point. I've never understood the whole deal with the limited membership. I'm sure it's a way of making it more exclusive, but that just seems like it limits yourself. If 10 of your original members become inactive it must be a real hassle to get anything done.

    De Facto Hierarchy

You're probably right. I'm not that familiar with Red Cross of Constantine, and don't think I've ever heard about the CBCS, so good points.
