Congrats Crono! I don't have any advice you probably don't know already: knowing the ritual makes for a smooth meeting and some type of education gives people a reason to come.
We actually did a lot of education since we usually have very little business to talk about, thankfully.
Wishing you...
Last resort?
Less bills and less need to hold fundraisers hardly seem last resort to me. Maybe we could start focusing back on meeting to make men better again. :)
It really depends on the reason a man wants the position. Servant type leaders will seek positions if they know they have something to offer the lodge. They'll accept the position, do what they set out to do, and then step back once the job is finished and/or the job is done. They'll also...
You have two types: Those who are constantly trying to get themselves or their friends in the East and/or on committees...and those that try to plan the lineup for the well-being of the lodge.
The second type just seems smart to me, poor planning leads to poor leadership which seriously hurts...
I haven't tried any of those except maybe tripe once. I'm open to the idea, I like trying new things, it's just I don't ever go places that serve anything on your list.
I keep telling myself I'll try liver one day, I just haven't felt brave enough yet.
As it was said before, we are a fraternity. In addition to that, we are a private organization that has the right to be as selective or exclusive as we want. As a fraternity, we only allow men to join, there's nothing sexist, backward, or negative about that.
I've only seen this come up on...
Better yet, when you start making exceptions then where do you draw the line? Who knows, we could be accepting anyone that has the money and initiating them in masse here in a few years. /rant
You probably know what is best for your lodge, or at least have an idea. I could tell you what I'd...
Hello brother,
Some content would go a long way here...perhaps a description of what's in the link? An opinion? It doesn't have to be an essay but I don't think many people will click random links they know nothing about, especially if it's from a username that hasn't posted often.
My logic is that our job as a lodge to take good men and make them better, therefore, if any petitioners come along that are either not (a.) Good men AND (B.) Expressing a desire to become better men then their goals are not in harmony with the goals of the lodge. Joining to join another...
I find that planning, discussing, and reporting on fundraisers tends to be the majority of what's discussed in stated meetings. I'm also not fond of members constantly asking people to devote their free time if they aren't interested...it drives them away from being active members.
Just my...
Since you're asking for opinions. :)
It doesn't matter if you hold fundraisers or pass the hat, you're only going to have a small percentage of members doing the lion's share of the work to keep the lodge operational. I also believe that if a brother doesn't join with the desire to volunteer...
Welcome to the forums!
Have you called your insurance company? I'm not sure what you're expecting unless you are looking for a brother that's an insurance expert.
