He sounds as thought he may be a spiritual person with a very different belief system. I certainly wouldn't hold it against him as we are supposed to be tolerant of one another. I agree with having him give you sources.

Generally speaking, if it's considered a felony (which I have no clue about possession) then it can be much harder to join (in some jurisdictions it's an outright 'no'). Lesser charges can also weigh against you but it's still much better to be forthright and honest. I hope that helps.
I'd look at what he claims his intentions to be. Ideally he would be a shaker thats willing to challenge the status quo.

I was pretty underwhelmed when I attended my first stated meeting as well. I was doing my work 7-8 years ago, about the same time as Bro Stewart and I was among some of the first EAs that were allowed to sit in on a stated meeting as well.

Its been my understanding that a lodge can hold as many fundraisers as they like. We are only limited to two raffles a year and that has to do with state law.
I feel I should also mention that our lodge also sells BBQ. We do it during a local event called Antique Alley as the chief money maker for our blue lodge. It's quite profitable and we only have to do it twice a year but smoking BBQ is very expensive and time consuming, not to mention selling it.
If you're concerned about any of it's contents conflicting with your faith, family, country, etc. then I can assure you there is nothing in the oaths/obligations that will do so.

I agree and disagree. People don't have any more or less time than they did several decades ago. I know here in rural Texas we once had farmers than tended the Earth from sunup to sundown but they still made it a priority to get to lodge. I...
