Just elected and installed as Junior Steward. Became a MM in the 1980s never took a chair before because of outside responsibilities I could not promise to attend every meeting. Will do my best to do so now.
A very touchy issue. As Masons we should be good citizens and participate in the political process even if that only means voting. Masonry has been political since day one. The American Revolution would not have happened without Masons. Most of the signers of the Delaration of Independance were...
I voted "other". I don't wear at home or when doing physical work. But when out in public I always have on. Met an MM last night because we both were wearing our rings.
I believe evolution is undeniable. We can see it everyday. But, I also belive it is compatabile with God's creation. He created and set the world in motion.
No amount of words will ever reconcile this subject. My take: Freemasonry is religious in nature, built opon the Bible. It is not a religion unto itself. It is not Christ exclusionary but begins before the Christian era. The advancing degrees take us into the Christian era. A belief in God is a...
Cannot debate what you said. I have only attended lodges in Arkansas and Missouri. Except for past officers, I have never seen MM bring his own fancy apron to lodge. I do have my own, a lambskin presented to me when I was raised. It stays in a drawer where my family will (hopefully) find it at...
The apron is pure white for a reason. Wait until you are issued one for a chair you have been elected to. Getting fancy is not a part of Freemasonry. BTW, my pure white lambskin was presented to me when I was raised along with a Bible.
I don't believe there is a line or question on the demit asking why it is being requested. The Arkansas GM is a one year term. The problem lies in a mindset with the controlling clique. I am dropping out of this thread. It is creating more negativism than good. I thank you for your response. But...
You read me wrong, Brother. My comments are of concern and trying to grasp the seriousness of the situation. There is no gloating. The GL officers are the ones who need to be told, and understand, where savings can be made. And, BTW, Arkansas does not have a communication vehicle (newsletter...
Arkansas does have a full time secretary. Annual GL meetings are held in a hotel that charges. The building where the GL rents space does have ample space for the annual meeting, but for whatever reason they prefer fancier. BTW, the building they are in is called the Scottish Rite temple. It is...
Closing is theoretical , of course. But what happens if they run out of money? The GL could not pay rent, utilities or the full time Secretary. It could not stage the annual meeting of the GL, etc. Reports are the money situation is getting very serious.
Thanks. Interesting history. In this day and age, how would a new GL be (re)constituted? With no central American National Grand Lodge authority, who would oversee formation of a new state GL?
I was with some Mason/Shriners over the weekend from two states. Heard numbers about how many MMs have been lost in Arkansas. It is staggering and very sad. And pretty well conceded that a clique from the Little Rock area control the GL line and probably will for many years to come. It comes...
Sorry you read it that way. If any implication it the GM believes he has the power to make delcarations and, thus far, has not been challenged or reversed.
Bro. Glen, in other threads the consensus was that the GM had no authority (or power) over non-affiliated entities. e.g. Lions Club, Baptist Church, etc. I have not read the entire Arkansas and those who have are unclear as to whether the GM has that authority. Personal loyalty by the GL line is...
This is obviously a very hot topic. It has been discussed in other threads regarding the situation in Arkansas. Essentially, several years ago the Arkansas GM incorrectly condemned an MM and Shriner for allegedly wrong behavior. The GM expelled the Brother and declared Shrine "clandestine". The...
I was presented with a Bible when I was raised in Arkansas. It is a large book with many Masonic references. In most large cities there will be a well stocked Christian book store. You should be able to find something that suits you there. Or, that source of everything books, Amazon.
