I am still learning the (new to me) ways of Missouri Lodges. We hand voted to accept two petitions for the degrees at last meeting. Hard for a bigot to hide doing it that way.
Another option that might be available is your local club, if you have one. My club accepts Fezes from widows of deceased members. Usually family has no use for a fez, they are big to display and dust catchers. We have dozens. Check it out.
Welcome Brother. You will find Shrine membership enjoyable and rewarding. The fancier fez's cost more. It is a matter of personal choice and budget. However, a newly made "created" Noble is given a fez, usually an imitation gold embroidered one. They are nice, nothing wrong with them. It will...
Bro. Jamie, the situation is well known by some jurisdictions and not well understood by others. As for out of state Masons who are Shriners attending Arkansas lodges, that varies with the understanding, or misunderstanding, of the individual lodge. In my area there are several such...
What Tom said is extremly disturbing. He belongs to several Masonic orders I once belonged to but left because I saw much that, in my opinion, were not following Masonic principals. I am one of those who sought Lodge membership in another state. I did so because I wanted to remain a Master Mason...
Respectfullly, Brother, almost none of what you said is correct. Shrine never was a Masonic body. Many here, with excellent credentials have stated the GM has no right or power to declare any non-Masonic body clandestine. Shrine has only served "in amity" with Masonry in Arkansas. It was the GM...
For several years now the Grand Master has deemed Shrine "clandestine". Even though no Masonic law gives them that right. A Mason who is a Shriner can be expelled at the will of the GM. I was sitting next to a visiting Mason/Shriner at my club circus when he got a text message from the GM...
JJ, I don't know if it was called Order of the Temple. Long time ago, term is not familiar to me. Just KT as far as I can recall. Nothing rude there. Straight talk if fine with me.
I guess I stirred things up a bit with this thread. The responses show a common theme. I will dig up my stories and retype them into digital format and post here later on. It will take a while but I would like to share and preserve. I do belive you will enjoy.
JJ, I understand where you are coming from. But my Commander initiation was a dramatic and memorable experience. No doubt partly because the Brother/Companion putting it on was an exceptional person. I would have liked to attend at least one Commandery meeting but the people running things there...
Yes, you, Blake and many others leave for a variety of reasons. Younger family men often simply cannot handle all the dues. Neither can many retirees. It is devasting to the organizations and to the people involved. At one point my annual dues (not all Masonic) totaled a months income. I had to...
Thank you for your thoughtful response.
#3 is near impossible in this area. It is heavily retiree, most new members are transfers in but are already at advanced age. As to the opening ritual. I am a writer and have written two stories on this subject. They were published about 20 years ago in...
Really, a lot of reasons. Some you might not agree with. I'll preface by saying I believe all the YR degrees and rituals are beautiful and tell important lessons. I consider myself YR and a KT to this day even though I did demit out. Years ago my town only had Chapter, it was necessary to drive...
I have a fairly extensive collection of Masonic and Shrine memorabilia. I have been collecting these items for many years. Shrine stuff is much more common, probably because Shriners are dress up and party types. That makes the acquisition of an interesting Masonic item of far more interest to...
I would not particpate in anything Masonic of women were included as members. Women have their own organizations, men have theirs. And, there are organizations which are open to both and that is fine. But, viva le difference.
