We did not do anything special. I've not heard that MLK day is a specially big masonic day to observe. Though MLK stood for many good things that masons would also agree with, I do not believe he was a mason, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Usually you'll see St. Johns day being observed much more...
I'm with the other brothers. Doesn't matter to me what a brothers job is at all. Of course in the earlier stages it can be nice to make sure that you can get to lodge regularly to meet people, learn the work etc. but don't let your schedule hold you back.
Find a lodge that fits you and that you...
Yes, black people, or any other race for that matter, is most certainly allowed in all lodges. Both "mainstream" and PHA. The good think about masonry is that it looks at the internal qualities of a man, not the external ones.
That being said (and without turning this into a debate) I do think...
Pretty sure that this approach more or less will land the organization right in the Clandestine category in Texas.
But let me expand a little further. A patch with a skull and crossbones and the words Master Mason is probably not something many Grand Lodges will feel comfortable with portraying...
I think there is a lot of truth to that especially in this fast paced world we live in. One of my brothers usually say that "if it's easy to get, and cheap to maintain" people have a tendency to loose interest. I've long believed that it's far to easy to become a MM these days, and actually...
I think that is a good guideline, but as you say the lack of a cypher in Texas makes that hard. If you look at the UK ritual (which is the only one I have in writing) we're only talking about grips, passwords and a few other things as you say.
But using that standard one could almost say that...
I'm presently doing research for a masonic paper, and once again came to the question "what can and can't you write down?"
We all know that we've sworn not to write etc. any of the secrets of ancient freemasonry, but what exactly are these? Theoretically everything in the ritual can be found on...
Ah yes. I've actually taken that one, I'm just not up to speed on all the fancy abbreviations.
I remember enjoying mine and hope that you will as well. I think there is always lessons to be learned from a degree, but naturally some will be more impressive than others.
I know what you mean, but if you pretend to be a masonic organization without being sanctioned you are in fact clandestine. If WS is allowed to do this, where is the line drawn?
Personally I am a big proponent of taking the degrees individually rather than at a festival. It'll take you a longer time for sure, but for me you get much more out of it. Getting so many degrees in one day and just sitting on the sideline watching them is not what I wanted out of this...
Just a technicality question, but doesn't an edict naturally "expire" when that Grand Master leaves office? I though they were only good for that one year?
(but must admit that I've never really read up on Grand Lodge law on that issue)
I hear what you are saying, but to be honest I think it's important not to confuse matters in this case. We can all agree that the situation between GLOTX and MWPHGLoT is silly and I think you'll find many people on this board that really wished that we could recognize each other, visit.
But...
Thank you for that link. It was a good and enlightening read.
However, I still do not think it justifies nor explains the present situation in the Ivory Coast. Whether it is technically permissible under Masonic lodge to charter a lodge in another jurisdiction, it must be recognized that it is...
Very well said. One of the sad things about the information age is how easy it is for anyone to set up a blog, and just start spewing our whatever they want. We have to remember that just because one person puts it on the internet does not necessarily make it true, nor should we pay to much...
And that may almost be one of the essences that you hit on here. Is the Shrine really a masonic organization any longer? We all know the history why it was created, and we all truly admire the incredible job they do with their hospitals and charities, but in truth what Masonic content is in the...
@mcr1975 and @Ed Nelson. Thank you for the information about these additional organizations. I was not aware of them as you state. One could almost make the argument that it was a spin-off on the Shriners, and not on blue lodge masonry, but that is a sidetrack to the discussion.
However I must...
