I've heard both answers given by brothers of my lodge so I'm just as confused. I get the reasoning, but doesn't it seem strange that GL would put a rule into place that puts propriety over being able to hold a meeting?

Interesting. So there are potentially several scenarios where you may have a requisite number of masons present, but still unable to properly open a lodge? (ex: SW and JW absent, only others present are already officers and 1 EA there...

Most excellent, brother! I too love astrophotography (appreciate rather than practice, that is). Particularly long exposure shots showing star movement.

While I also find the post mildly amusing and strange to me, I suddenly find myself remembering that there are in fact some fringe or non mainstream deistic beliefs out there. Tolerance of the strange or unknown is difficult to remember to practice, but I feel I should try harder nonetheless...
At least in texas, the orders of architecture are monitorial rather than ritual. But like was said, is historical knowledge already.

You could certainly draw parallels between alchemical transmutation of metals and the transition between ashlars, though i haven't seen anything written before. I actually have a small book on masonic alchemy and symbolism, but have yet to read it.
