Hah, patience is a virtue that you will be exercising quite a bit in your journey, my friend. Thankfully masonry is both deep and wide and affords a lifetime of light.
The process begins with you visiting your lodge (for an undetermined length of time), then obtaining a petition and filling it out with the requisite signatures. After you turn it in, the petition itself is voted to be either accepted or rejected at a monthly stated meeting, afterwards an...
I dunno, maybe it has no bearing whatsoever. It's easy to forget that there is currently plenty of examples of r+v states that use cipher. I seem to recall at one point I had a better answer to that question, but somehow it now escapes me.
EDIT: I think it was along the lines of the current hot...

Perhaps that could change if there was a correct authorized cipher, but that's a whole other topic... ;)
Your words hold great depth. Wrongful pride is what got us here in the first place if you think about it. We did not remember the first...
Re: Fraternal Relations Committee (Grand Lodge of
Now that IS an idea isn't it? Turn the attention to dealing w/ clandestine masonry in TX and r+v equates the necessary force to do so. It's less idealogical that way, but any means to an end right?

GLoTX is my jurisdiction, however your assertion is wise counsel indeed. I only wish the brethren to be prepared so that if/when this topic is brought up, all bases are covered.

I'd say no. Think of it this way though. How long would you need to know someone before you would agree to be a personal character reference on a job application? Your name is attached to their conduct good or bad. Now put yourself in the requesters shoes. It depends on the lodge and brethren...
Re: Fraternal Relations Committee (Grand Lodge of
Understand that I am not poo-pooing on visitation, but merely pointing out where some sticking points might occur. I do have some reservations on the two areas that I pointed out, but it is nothing that can't be worked out I believe.
Re: Fraternal Relations Committee (Grand Lodge of
Just because a cipher is authorized does not mean that others aren't proud to have learned it by ear. NOR does that mean I am exaggerating. Given the sour taste the subject of ciphers have left in many members' mouths, it is not a far cry to...
Re: Fraternal Relations Committee (Grand Lodge of
Your question confuses me. Is it meant to be sarcasm or is the meaning just escaping me?
Perhaps I should just clarify that I don't think anybody actually expects hordes of clandestine masons to flood their lodges, but some may take issue on...
As for the first question, it varies with different churches, church leadership's familiarity with the fraternity, as well as religious views. It really does vary. Out of every church I've ever attended (about a dozen over my life span and probably 3-4 since I've been a mason as I've been trying...
Ask them to stop right there, back up a sentence, and assume their tin foil hat before saying that again. ;)
You ought to give them a quick schooling on the world "occult". That is, it is from latin "occultus" meaning hidden or secret. In a strictly literal sense, yes it is occult in nature. The...
perhaps he thought you were petitioning PHA and though a PHA mason sig might be more appropriate? I try to give the benefit of the doubt and try not to think it was racist. I guess that's only a call you can make. Maybe it was just a careless statement?
I think that should be read as "they mean nothing *on their own*". I agree, in the absence of context a symbol is meaningless.. although even a symbol without somebody else's meaning can be given meaning by anybody I reckon and therefore any object can potentially be a symbol for an unlimited...
Re: Fraternal Relations Committee (Grand Lodge of
I've long withheld my thoughts on the issue, but here is a brief synopsis. I am all for recognition + visitation. This is the 21st century after all and the racial division needs to be put to rest. HOWEVER, my only qualm with visitation rights...
Three months is certainly pretty quick (I did mine in 3 as well, though as I've stated before, my biggest regret so far is going through so quickly). I think normally a year is average, but some go quicker and some slower.
