    Pictures of rings

Basic steel stamped signet. Heavy and rugged. Got it for myself when I was raised and I wear it daily. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

GL of Rebuplic of Texas Seal image?

I know I've seen one on the forum in previous times, but a lot of the old images have disappeared since and a cursory search on Google hasn't yielded any results... Does anyone have a decent quality image of the Grand Lodge of Republic of Texas seal before it was changed?

    Masonic Ring

Pretty much all the rings you see are Master Mason rings. Appendant body rings are usually labelled York, Scottish, etc. I prefer the classic Square & Compasses ring myself. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    Few younger masons

I'm definitely not the youngest in my lodge, but pretty far down the ladder at 31 years old. we have a number of brothers in their 20's, some in their 30's and a lot in their 40's.

No problem. We'll answer any questions we can, although all your questions will have answers in due time, hah.

    Grand Virtual lodges one day

True, I think if we ever get to the point of "virtualizing" the Lodge, we've created an organization that emphasizes the individual rather than the fraternal aspects. How much further is it to having degrees conferred by watching an online video? That's a bit of an exaggeration, but still... I...

    the degrees

Yes, you are initiated an Entered Apprentice and become a Brother to other masons. After whatever requirements of your jurisdiction deem, you are eligible to be passed and raised to Fellowcraft and Master Mason degrees, respectively.

    Greetings From Michigan, Lodge #342

Greetings and welcome to our online community. Glad to have ya here! I've not been out to LA for some years, but check the GLoCA site and find the contact info of some lodges in the area you will be in. They'll be more than happy to receive you or someone on here I'm sure will point you in the...

    Initiation

My recommendation is to take it all in like others have said. However, do not be terribly concerned with remembering every little word. You don't want to get so caught up in feeling like you need to remember everything that is being said that you forget to just experience the wonder of it...

    West Gate

I think IC's need to be diligent in only favorably recommending men who will not only benefit the Craft, but moreso will be benefitted by the Craft. If everyone concedes that "this guy will probably only ever be an EA", then he might not be a good candidate. Of course, it does come down to the...

    Passing The Hat

I suppose that is something that I hadn't considered... Where the fund raising event is just as much, if not more, of a social event as it is a fundraiser. A good example would be if you had a stellar fundraising event that raised money that dues would not practically cover, why not. A black tie...

    International Lodge times

Maybe the symbolic Lodge, sure! LOL Although perhaps during the golden age of fraternalism when there were more lodges than you could shake a stick at, I could see that.

    Passing The Hat

My 2 cents... 99% of lodge activities should be funded by dues, including meals, building upkeep, lodge library, candidate materials, presenter costs, etc. Dues should be high enough to support that, but not above. New candidates should be told that masonry has a price tag and part of the IC...

    Austin Scottish Rite

hah, there is a LOT to "soak up", brother! Do not be surprised if you are a tad overwhelmed. The Scottish Rite degrees, to me at least, make a lot more sense with a lot of self study after the fact and a few reunions under your belt. lol

    Commandery: How is it masonic?

Do not forget that it is generally regarded that the hiramic legend itself was an addition at some point and is not mentioned in the ancient 2 degree system. The commandery presents an interesting evolution in my eyes. The Order of the Temple's corresponding degree in the Scottish Rite, Knight...

    Any java programmers out there?

if you're only using java as a first foray into programming, i'd probably suggest something a little less daunting. python or perl, while scripting languages vs compiled languages will get you up to speed quickly on the fundamentals. iOS is a little more flexible than it used to be, but to get...

    Any java programmers out there?

If you're itching to learn java, make sure you have a soft keyboard... as your forehead will be banging against it often. ;) if iOS is your thing, you might wanna consider objective-c. Personally, I prefer ruby but to each their own. I'm not much of an instructor, but I can try to hunt down some...
