    What is Scottish Rite?

Hmm, well the short answer is that the Scottish Rite is what we call an "appendant body", that is, a side body which is part of the larger whole of Freemasonry. It is a rite, or collection of progressive degrees, that teach further morals, lessons, etc. Once a man receives the degree of Master...

Valley of Houston Stated Meeting and Feast of Consistory

Personally, I always wear a suit to our SR meetings minus the tie. Most others are wearing suits as well. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

Donation to a Mason in need from a Mason who has passed on.

I am also here in Fort Worth. There is a really great Masonic organization here called the Masonic Service Bureau that accepts medical items like these and gets them to those who need them in the area (Masons and non-Masons alike) among many other duties such as arranging Masonic funerals, etc...

GL of Rebuplic of Texas Seal image?

It is the one on the commemorative coin that Willys posted. I've actually got that particular image and have been converting it to a lineart drawing to use. I'm speaking of the GL seal from the original Republic of Texas, before it was a state.

    No mixed vouchers?

In my jurisdiction, your "top line" signers (your two main recommenders) are from the lodge being petitioned, while the other three recommenders (yes, three more), can be from other jurisdictions provided there is recognition (I don't have my law book on hand, but I'm curious to see the...

    A bridge to light

I've been going through the MCP for some time. It is well worth it. You will receive the monitor along w/ part 1. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    A bridge to light

I've been through BtL a couple times now. It's pretty good as an intro to M&D. Even after reading, M&D is still a tad daunting. Is suggest going from BtL to the Ritual Monitor and then M&D. The ritual guide is a very good "in between" for the two books. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    moving to Texas

It's not weird, tho like you said it would be nice to get all your degrees there. Depends on when your initiation is. It would be close, but it's doable. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    MEMORIZING THE WORK!

To be fair,"catechism" is a term meaning teaching via a system of questions and answers. I guess it's still a catechism, but not in the teaching sense. Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    moving to Texas

I don't know anyone in Tyler itself, but have family in Longview not too far from there. I'm sure there are brethren on here that know some Tyler masons (esp since this was originally the Masons of Texas forum before Myfreemasonry, hah) Sent From My Freemasonry Pro App

    MEMORIZING THE WORK!

Rote learning takes time and repetition to work. We don't use a book here so ours is all mouth to ear for instruction, but I have used our monitor for learning parts for the long-form lectures. I'll try to pass along my thoughts... When trying to learn your work, SAY IT OUT LOUD. Hearing...

    Pictures of rings

Personally, I'm not a terribly big fan of the "class ring" style ring for anything besides class rings, hah. But to each their own.

    Your Ring

check out Esty and search for masonic rings if you want something with a little more handmade flair to it as well. You've got plenty of time to choose tho. ;)

    Finally taking Commandery Orders

Well, I'm finally taking my Commander Orders. Sadly, I'm relegated to having to take them at a festival because the Commandery I'm joining can't seem to put them on themselves. It really is a bummer because I took all my Chapter and Council degrees actually IN my C&C, not at a festival. I guess...

    Attending lodge meetings

Thankfully, our WM-to-be has made it a point to state that any officers who wish to take office need to be there for not just stated meetings, but degrees, floor school, etc as well. In fact, our SW-to-be, opted to step down this next year because his business occupied too much of his time and...

    Initiation

EDITED RESPONSE: I read your question again, hah. Yes, you are a member of your lodge which is part (a subordinate lodge) of the GL of CA. Thus, you as a member are under the auspices of your respective GL. Think of GL as a company whereas your lodge is a department of that company. Sent...
