Welcome to Texas my Brother. My ex-Father in law is a Past Master of NB lodge as well as Past Potentate of the Alzafar Shrine in San Antonio in 2000. He was called by the GAOTU in September of 2006. You will love the area and the people. Eat a sausage on a stick for me. We don't see much of...
Sorry I've been quiet since the start of the year but my company has been cutting back and cut my pay by 38% :eek:just to stay employed. So....I have found new employment with a company in Sanford, Maine and will be relocating in mid March. It's about two hours away from Boston so I can pop in...
Here is a newsletter published by RW Graeme Marsden of Rural Lodge in Quincy, MA. It has local and interanational news. A very good weekly newsletter that goes out by email to over 2,000 Masons. Here is the latest.
Newsletter for week of 2/6/09
In both NJ and PA I was asked for a dues card. In PA I was asked about the 5 points and in NJ I had to explain the positions of the S&C through the degrees. When I came to my current MA lodge I was asked for my dues card, the strong grip of a mason and then was given an application for...
There is only one Mason higher than the Master and that is the Grand Master. DDGM are only extensions of the GM. It is your job to see the lodge abides by the rules and regulations of your jurisdiction. There is no lodge bigger than the jurisdiction and no Brother bigger than the fraternity.
As a Past Master, one bit of advice I can give you is, if you publish your cell phone number then increase the minutes on your account...you'll need them. It seems everyone thinks you have all the answers as soon as you take the gavel. The other thing is, if you have children that are now over...
In MA, a GM is called Most Worshipful Grand Master (name). A PGM is called Most Worshipful Brother (name). It used to be only the sitting GM was called MW and PGM were RW but they changed that a few years ago. I like it. It's like once a President always a President.
Whatever ritual is involved please be polished. In MA, our wording in receiving him is slightly different in his Official and his Fraternal visits. I was told that I was the only Master last year of seven lodges to get it right. I was later appointed to be one of his officers. Also, proper...
In MA, Stewards set the tables and maybe serve. The JW is responsible for providing meals. They are usually catered or they hire the OES ladies to come in so they can make a few extra bucks. We have a Brother in our district that runs a very nice catering service and gives us great deals on...
Military huh? If an guy gets out of the Army and decides he wants to go into the Navy he doesn't have to go through camp again just a 4 week course to introduce the way things are done in that branch. Are the degrees REALLY necessary in this case? Maybe, maybe not. That's a tough one. I...
I have visited lodes in three different states. Each time I was able to contact someone by email, then by phone. When I arrived, I showed my dues card and was still examined. To hear you were not is kind of surprising. Someone's not guarding the West Gate.
It was only recently that the GL of MA said that no alcohol can be served before a meeting. As far as alcohol at lodge, it is always left up to the Master at the time. Since we had a few "rufians" in our lodge who liked to 'stir' things at times. I proclaimed no alcohol in my year. I had a...
I like the consitent content on Facebook. Myspace seems to concentrates on the appearence. I actually started with Myspace and thought it was cool that I could have Darrell McCall singing when you open my page but after joining facebook, I haven't been back, but that's me.
Happy New Year Brother Secretary! December 31, 2008, Avon, MA we had 10 inches of snow and right now it's five degrees with a chill factor of -12 degrees. What a hell of way to bring in the new year!
I'm freezing my south Texas a$$ off!
The average age in MA is 62. Down from 67 five years ago. MA is only one of three US jurisdiction to have a postive growth in 2007. Our Deputy Grand Master is a second generation MA. All his ancestors are from TX and his Grandmother is a "Daughter of the Republic of TX. He and I have had...
