While what you mention has a serious tone, I figure here is a good place for a light hearted joke:
There were two close friends who had been Masonic Brothers and attended Lodge together for more than 50 years. They had seen good times and bad times, but through it all, they had always gone to...
First, I am sorry to hear about your mother, and I will remember her in my prayers.
As for dealing with it, take comfort in your knowledge that we will live again, and rely on your Lodge for strength and support for as long as you need. You brothers will help, aid, and assist in any way they can.
Re: if i came to you lodge on a stated what would
We have sandwiches, cookies, chips, coffee, etc. from time to time after stated meetings. We used to have them after every stated meeting, but the brother who made them and the one who brought them have both since died. We save our meals for...
What do you consider too low? I don't have number. Whatever wouldn't allow your Lodge to pay its bills. Otherwise, is your Lodge trying to profit from its members.
What would be too high for you to pay? Again, I don't have a number because it's a hypothetical question. I won't be able to truly...
I salute everyone on their apparent ability to pay. As nixxon2000 said, you have to consider your local market. Here, $100+ dues would be very high. Just thinking of our officers alone, three are retired, and three are young and under employed. It would be tough on them. It's not as much a...
Here is a question for those of you from Lodges with (what I consider) high fees/dues $100+:
How does this impact your Lodges trying to bring in young members or retaining older ones? In our area, I honestly think it would destroy the Craft. How does a young man just starting out afford...
I just found out tonight, checking the Tennessee code, that the use of any unauthorized codes/ciphers/etc. by a Lodge is grounds for having your charter taken. You learn something new every day. I had never really given it much thought, I guess, because our Craftsman is so good, there is no need...
I am feeling good about this year. I just got back from our stated meeting.
We read three new petitions tonight.
We set two EAs for next Tuesday.
We set three EAs the following Tuesday.
We set two FCs the Tuesday after that.
The Tuesday after that will be state meeting again where we will vote...
Yes, it's a common term, the definition of which means "to deceive or trick."
When I was in the newspaper business years ago, our managing editor's last name was Hood. He wrote a weekly column of news from the lighter side called "Hood Winks."
I can not answer the question on a statewide basis. I can not speak for 45,000 people. Also, I didn't write the state-approved petitions. I was just adding additional information on the topic at hand. As for Jews or Muslims in my specific town wanting a petition, I have never seen nor heard tell...
Numbers don't scare me. I'd rather have 20 men who want BE Masons than 200 who want to be CALLED Masons. The only reason numbers are an issue is money when the Grand Lodge sticks its hand out. I would dearly love to see a hundred members out every time the door is unlocked. That would be...
1. Our initiation fee is $100 paid up front before the EA.
2. Our dues are $64.
3. Our membership is about 150. We generally have 25-30 at stated meetings and 35-50 for degree work.
4. We have one stated meeting for business. We do degree work as needed. Some months, we might have 3-4 degree...
One thing I have been considering is a yard sale this summer. My proposal is to have brothers bring in anything they want to donate, and all money made goes to the Lodge. It serves two purposes. It allows members to clean out their closets and out buildings, and there is zero overhead such as...
I think it's a fine idea. Fellowship is what Masonry is all about. I generally don't like doing degree work on Saturdays because it is so tough to get folks out for that amount of time, but if you are just having people stop by at the leisure to fellowship, it sounds like a good idea to me.
Yes, historically the Blue Lodge is associated with the York Rite because of the intimate connection of the degrees. At one point, the Royal Arch was actually conferred in Blue Lodges.
The York Rite College Gold Service Award is presented annually to Masons for their "outstanding service in...
