What is it that we are supposed to "do" in terms of Masonry? A Lodge isn't supposed to turn a profit. There is no point in having vast sums of treasure just for the sake of having it. We provide a place for like-minded people to fellowship. We provide a local scholarship annually. We do...
I am neither, but by judging from the older membership of our Lodge, at least up through the mid 80s, if you were a cop or fireman, you were also a Mason. As for the brotherhood, I'd say at least 3/4 of our Lodge members are military veterans.
I'm sure he would. That sounds good.
Masons also like Grand Masters' knives (do other states do those?).
On the 20th anniversary of my raising, I called the four Lodge members in attendance, who were also there on that night, to the altar and presented them with a lapel pin. Fortunately, one...
The portraits we have actually in the Lodge room are four Past Most Illustrious Grand Masters from our Lodge (all PMs), a Past Grand Commander from our Commandery, a Past Worthy Grand Matron from the OES chapter, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Johnson.
Honestly, living where we do, it was probably good advice. I'm certain it is in the Tennessee Masonic Code that alcohol isn't supposed to be served at lodge buildings. It's just one topic I avoid like the plague. I like beer. We have some Lodge members who think if you walk past the beer aisle...
Your post is kind of vague. Did you say something in terms of ritual that a brother felt was in error, or did you make a motion or something he had a problem with? I'm guessing the latter. Unless it was some kind of major blowup, just take it in stride and let it rest. Everyone isn't going to...
Hiram's is nice. I really like West Nashville's. Many of the site focus Masonry in general. I have told our guy that the home page has to be about our Lodge with links to Masonry. I don't want to see gigantic S&C or working tools or some catchy saying pop up from the start. I want to see our...
Our Lodge is finally starting a web site. If your Lodge has a good one or you know of a good one, will you please post the link? I'd like to share them with the brother creating ours so he can get some ideas.
Thanks.
The next few years will see a resurgence similar to the post WWII boom, but not likely on the same scale. We have thousands of returning veterans who will seek the fraternal bond they enjoyed in the military. Our Lodge membership is overwhelmingly veterans. All three of our stationed officers...
I have never heard of any certain amount of time. I went through the York Rite festival three months after my raising, and I was glad I did. It provided a lot of extra info. I didn't become active in the YR until much later, but I was glad I got the degrees early.
Our Lodge hands out an info...
If someone will please convey Fraternal Greetings from Greeneville Lodge No 3 F&AM of Tennessee and WM Joe Byrd, I would appreciate it. Brother David Crockett was born in Greene County.
This isn't a very good rendition as I just kind of rigged it up on my computer, but here is mine. I call it a winged J. In addition to being a Mason, I am an avid runner. So, I combined my first initial with traditional wings of victory associated with running.
I know just enough about the Widows Sons situation in Texas to fall between ignorant and ill-informed. Would someone please enlighten me? From my perspective, unless the organization is meeting AS Masons (tiled meetings, degree work, etc.), it seems this is a case of a GM overstepping his...
Here, our opening charge requires the WM to be uncovered, but our closing charge does not. We have a closing benediction (after the charge/prayer/closing of the lights) where the WM uncovers.
I like the ring.
I also agree with the VPM degree not really making someone a PM. That's all tied up in YR tradition of formally having to be an actual PM to receive the Royal Arch degree.
Here, you can get the actual degree and joint the PM's association the day you are installed if you like...
It's a shame that most jewelry stores, local jewelry stores anyway, don't carry Masonic rings. Two decades ago, I went to a local store (and by that I mean something other than national chains) and picked out my ring. I tired it on, had it sized, and was good to go. They had a case full of rings...
