Wow...how 2008...the site has come a long way indeed!

    Freemason station / podcast

I listen to "Whence Came You" regularly. I also listen to the following 2 podcasts whenever they come out: The Winding Stairs (http://www.thewindingstairs.com/podcast-2/) is another good podcast, but he is on a somewhat irregular schedule. The Life Masonic Podcast (from the Supreme...

Do you wear your lambskin apron to lodge?

I received a white leather apron when I was raised and wear it on special occasions. The lodge where I was raised (Oak Forest #1398) provided cloth aprons for members and cloth past master's aprons. Oak Forest also gave PMs a very nice apron at the end of their year and some would wear that on...

    2014 Certifications

How long ago was that? It had to be pre-1997 because that system was in place when I was raised. I got an "A" certificate in 1999 and 1999, but lapsed in 2000 due to lack of time because of family and work concerns. I was a man without a country from 2004-2012, but I'm active again and I'm...

Does GLoT allow Wiccans to become TX masons?

I think you've missed something in Bro. Bowden's comment. He is making a slippery slope argument and inferring from rather vague and general principles. | To wit: IF we allow members of X religion; THEN we will have to allow members of Y religion. Since he nowhere attempts to joint these two...

The Secret Teachings Of All Ages

Actually, he frequently refers to his sources within the text (even if he doesn't city his sources to the page, etc., in a scholarly manner) in much the same way Albert Pike does in his work Morals and Dogma. Hall also includes a very extensive bibliography of sources he consulted while...

Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st century

Re: Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st Zaden, very nice! I'm glad to see that Oak Forest Lodge in Houston is doing so well! I was Raised there in 1997 and I'm still friends with your Secretary and Chaplain (Robert and Bill), and John Artz! I was out of the Craft from 2004, until...

Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st century

Re: Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st Very nice! We also invite potential candidates, men who've submitted petitions (what a great way to get to know who you are voting on), etc. Our SW gives a short masonic talk every stated meeting, and a JW presents a portion of the law as well...

CBS Sunday Morning to air segment on Freemasonry

Re: CBS Sunday Morning to air segment on Freemason Most of the segments on CBS news Sunday Morning are about that long. Rarely will be they be too much longer.

Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st century

Re: Why Texas Masonry is not surviving in the 21st My lodge must be an exception to the rule. We regularly have around 30-35 at our stated meetings and almost every Monday and/or Tuesday night you can pop into the lodge and find a few brothers sitting around chatting, and a few of our EAs and...

Turning in my petition for the Houston Shriners

Re: Turning in my petition for the Houston Shriner What are the yearly dues for the Houston Shriners? I know the Grotto dues are $40.00 per year with a $175.00 initiation fee (which includes a Fez).

    Master's Hat

I've only served as WM for degrees (usually giving the lecture) and I wear a Fedora or a Pork Pie with a wide bring (cowboy hats do not look good on my, though an LBJ style does, if I could afford one right now). In Texas, the WM's hat MUST have a crown and a full brim, so a newsboy cap would...

    Straight,Safety, Or Disposable Razor

A "stainless steel" Futur? Are you sure such a beast exists? I have the polished chrome version of the Futur (that I got in 2009), but it's solid brass with a chrome plating.

Are long form degree lectures worth it?

I've given, and do give, the lectures in Texas. I've not bothered to learn the monitorial portions of the lectures, nor do I plan to. I've known only a few lectures who know those parts and give them. Once in awhile I think it is a good idea for someone to give the full form of the lecture...

Which one was the most diffcult?

EA, because everything was so new. It took me 2 months to go from EA to FC (back when the wait between degrees was 1 month), and it took most of that two months to get the work down. It only took me a few weeks each for the FC, and MM degrees.

    Acoustic Guitar

Thanks! I feel that if I could teach myself to play, anybody can!

    Acoustic Guitar

I taught myself to play 30 years ago. Some say I'm pretty good. My advice: practice every chance you get, get some good books. and LISTEN and WATCH lots of guitar players that you like and borrow from them. Here's some audio of me playing a song I wrote (recorded by and band I was in at the...

    Masonic tube

It likely held a Lodge Charter, or a Patent for the 32nd degree.
