As someone who just finished learning letter-perfect my first "long form" lecture (the EA long form, that is, including the monitorial sections), I was told by a couple members of the lodge that it would be best to not do the long form lecture at all because of the chance of boring/losing the...
I got ya. These are just our opinions (and we're certainly an opinionated bunch, hah). Like I said, it is a most thought provoking question to us, but I can't see the benefit of it to a candidate. Though again your IC may.

BryanMaloney gave an excellent answer and I concur. I have felt that I have gained tremendously in my Christian spiritual life by being a mason as well as broadening my understanding of esotericism et al, the latter especially in Scottish Rite. If one were to delve further, one would gain more...
You're right, there's no lasting harm in the question. Personally, however, I think the question was unfair to ask a new candidate who knows nothing about our troubles within. To ask them to enter with a clear mind, but then burden them with worries about the craft seems counterproductive. But...
We had someone who was in this situation not too long ago. If you do some forum searching, you can probably find it. Basically, the reaction was not very positive along the lines of brothers being offended by our symbolism tattooed on the uninitiated (akin to someone having the logo of the...
well, this forum is using vbulletin as it's forum backend. There are solutions like vbulletin mobile suite: http://www.vbulletin.com/mobile/ and others that basically render the forum as a "mobile web app" or full on app. if you're already using vB as the backend, i'd just google vbulletin...
The "short form" sounds like a completely tragic neutering of the craft IMO. I can't understand taking the Masonry out of Freemasonry by taking out the need to actually learn the meaning of the degree and boiling it down to a few short paragraphs. Just terrible.

I'm not catholic (my friend who shared it on FB is), but it's a good article that a SR Rose Croix mason can relate to.

Re: Will SJR Scottish Rite members be Clandestine
It is a legit question. I've asked the same. In tx there is not blue lodge visitation. If SR allows it and I visit, will I get in trouble w/ my GL?That is a real question.

Re: Membership and participation in Freemasonry to
I think no invitation should stay that way. I see little harm in name dropping the craft into conversation with a man you believe would make a good mason. Through normal conversation, if he will likely get curious. Then invite him to a stated...
Like markR said, you've got a good chance you may embarrass someone unnecessarily. You might also have a well informed brother who realizes that challenges like this are often colloquial and could care less about your guessing game making you look bad. Odds are, you'll only get the correct...
Got me on that one. I can't see a reason beyond the current "that's the way it's been". Maybe at a time when masonry was in a boom during the "GAoF", it made sense to accommodate the influx. Now though?...
I can't see how sticking with the larger lodges who are only getting 15-25% attendance is...
there always exceptions to every situation. I've no doubt some men who were the product of insta-mason days turn out to be outstanding members. something just tugs at the back of my mind and it feels wrong for the long-term health of the craft. cultivating members who chose expediency over time...
I would think the really high number for large cities probably IS to discourage spawning lodges so easily. Imagine if SA had 50+ lodges, add to that houston, fort worth, dallas, el paso. I could see how it might turn into an administrative nightmare if the overall amount of lodges in TX were to...
