    My Masonic Library

Thought I'd start a thread to track my library collection thus far. I'm always adding to it. This is a rough catalog as I'm still missing publishing years, some authors, ISBNs, etc. It's a start though. I see a lot of threads of guys asking about some books to read; well, here's a place to...

Out of state membership records requests

Anybody have an idea what is the norm for requesting membership records (deceased) from an out-of-state grand jurisdiction? Texas has a dedicated genealogy request section of its site, but for other states what is the etiquette? Can I contact the Grand Sec and/or staff directly or is it better...

    Back (ward?) to the Future

I've usually said that I don't like the progressive line, but that's not quite right. The progressive line has merits, in that it lets you work up to the East and experience all the duties along the way. What I do NOT like is the de facto one-year term limits. If a set of officers is really...

Prince Hall GL of Texas Agrees to Visitation

I work just down the street. I wonder if they would let me take a gander if I come for a visit.

    Feelings about wearing light...

I only wear my ring and occasionally a *single* lapel pin (usually the double headed eagle or triple tau).

I'm pretty positive Tiler is appointed here, hah.

    Surprise!! You're elected to S.D.

Is the Tiler elected too? I should probably know this.

    Lapel Pen ???

I don't see why it would be an issue normally, but like you said, there's been talk of the challenges being a problem. However, I would *think* that at something like a GL mid-winter session, that kind of behavior would not be tolerated. Someone who has actually been would have a better idea though.

I'd like to join the Atzlan Lodge #1 in Prescott, AZ.

In most jurisdictions, a felony can disqualify you, though the specifics are up to the jurisdiction in question.

    Visiting other Lodges

Yeah, typically you can always show up over dressed and you won't have a problem. As a rule, if you are an EA or FC, it is good to call before hand that way you won't accidentally show up say, during a MM degree, and have to be turned away. It is good courtesy to let them know you are coming...

Does your Lodge adopt families for the holidays?

Does your Lodge adopt a family or families during the holiday season, either for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or both? Or even for other holidays or just other times of the year. Reply back with how do you come across names generally, how is it received, what you do for them (meal, presents...

    Surprise!! You're elected to S.D.

My first chair was Master of Ceremonies. Here only the "big 5" (WM, SW, JW, Trs, Sec) are elected whereas the rest are appointed.

Seeking advice on timing to ask for Petition

You're on the right track and have the right mindset to petition. As to your father in law, don't *not* petition because of perceived favoritism, but like you said, you also shouldn't join a particular lodge just because he's there either. Join wherever you feel most at home. You can always...

Make Room For A New GL in Texas

Extra steps as in the process of being "healed".

    One Day Masonic Class/Journey

And to add to this, much of the symbolism is multi-layered and has more than just the monitorial meaning that must be sought after.

    One Day Masonic Class/Journey

I am less concerned about memorization and men being "good ritualists" and more about them laboring in the quarries properly. I think barring a better method, the memory catechisms are a way to symbolically or literally demonstrate that they have performed their labors. I would actually prefer...
