I'm also in agreement on this. It's very unfortunate that more rural areas, such as my own, cannot confer YR degrees outside of festivals due to the large amount of manpower required. I went through a one day festival for ALL of my YR degrees and, until I saw them again years later, could not...
I don't look at it that way, although I certainly see what you mean. If a Commandrie doesn't want to change their uniform in hopes of attracting younger members then they're completely in their right to do so. However, what if -existing- members dislike the uniforms? I think it's also within...
I personally feel that instead of wringing our hands over inactive members we should focus on creating a lodge experience that will interest and retain currently active members. I suspect consistently holding stated meetings to just pay bills and discuss fundraisers is largely responsible for...
The progressive line has several important functions, not the least of which is that it should, I repeat: should, create leaders and weed out those who aren't leadership material. It shouldn't be a 'free ride' to the East just because you appear at all of the functions.
I believe a more in depth summary is usually given during the installation of officers. If so, and it may vary from state to state, then it should be included in your monitor as well.
Freemasonry was 'innovated' several times i as it adapted and evolved to the times (operative to speculative, taverns to masonic temples, temples to lodges, etc.). How we met has changed and the ritual has changed. Did the warnings against innovation even exist in the ritual before the...
The progressive line does have it's place when done correctly and I do feel a brother should move through the majority, if not all, of the line before sitting in the East. That being said, one of the biggest disservices we can do to our lodges and our fraternity as a whole is to advance someone...
@Glen Cook
I don't think anyone here believes the sheer act of memorization is enough to transform a man, if that was the case we'd never have a need for masonic charges.
(Warning: The following is merely opinion and may be offensive to some, despite my efforts to to be)
What is easily obtained is easily discarded. Even if a brother is still required to memorize the work after the degrees are given the fact remains that they have still been rushed through what...
I'm in agreement with Cronos and Bro. Lins on this. I'll also say that I believe that if someone wants a position then he should know the work before he is installed.
Don't get me wrong, ritual proficiency isn't equal to leadership. I've seen terrible ritualists that were decent leaders and...
That's good if that's the case. I only saw the masonic plaque and the church plaque but maybe the schools and plaques look enough alike that I jumped the gun. :cool:
Thought this might interest some of my Texas brothers:

Apparently somebody feels the Masonic plaque is religious. I don't see this going anywhere as there are many, many public buildings with...
