I had the pleasure of visiting Fiat Lux Lodge No. 1717 in Washington DC on April 18, 2015. This is a lodge working under the Grand Lodge of DC FAAM in the Emulation Ritual. It seemed every member there was either British born or one generation removed.
It was an outstanding experience! Not only did I see Masonry I was familiar with but I was also lost and confused (in a good way) seeing Masonry in a way I hadn't before. The brethren were warm and welcoming. Also the meal which was served was outstanding. The lodge was tyled at 5:00 pm (meeting lasted a few hours) and I left sometime around 11:00 pm.
As a Mason from a grand jurisdiction that has nothing of the like within it I was floored a the diversity in ritual and lodge function GLDC allows. Again this was in a very good way. I would suggest every Mason who can to seek out a lodge which is different from yours and attend at least one meeting. See how Masonry is different and the same.
