It would depend on the jurisdiction. Some have time limits some dont those that do usually have some type of process to get the overdue brother back on the path

Under the Grand Lodge of Texas, you may do all of the above and even turn in your EA work when ready. After you have performed your EA proficiency, you will have to petition for advancement before progressing further.
