Can only agree with what the other brothers said. Only thing to add would be the suggestion to visit a couple of lodges before you make your decision. Each lodge has a certain feel to it, and you want to find the one that is the best match for you and visa versa.

I think it is very common to do the FC and the MM in one sitting. In fact I've never heard about anyone splitting it since they are so short. I do not believe it's an option.

I'm personally of the opinion that suit and tie should be worn for degrees and stated meeting. Weekly practice session, lodge nights etc. I'm not to bothered about. But I like the idea to dress up to show some reverence towards the craft, event, lodge and fellow brothers.

Not to hijack the conversation, but as far as I understand the whole requirement of sovereign territory is a major part of the issue with GLOT recognizing their Prince Hall counterpart. The current laws simply does not allow there to be two Grand Lodges in Texas.

Safe way to find out it always to ask your lodge secretary. He should have a list of all recognized lodges and grand lodges.
