There are many clubs within Masonry that are recognized and sanctioned.
Just within my local Shrine Temple, there is:
Bedouins RV Club
Motorcycle Club
Yacht Club
Golf Club
All specialized clubs with a common, non-masonic interest, yet you must be a Shriner (and therefor a Master Mason) to join.
We still have an Entered Apprentice on the books from 1999. His address is no longer valid, and I'm thinking that he will be suspended if he doesn't pay his dues (as now required). I guess that's one way to clear up the roster of non-interested members.
When I became an EA, then a FC, I wasn't even given the option of the long form. I was just told to memorize the obligation in short form. I think I would have chosen the short form if given the choice then, but knowing what I know now, I see the value of the long form.

Over at the Northern California Lodge where I am a member, I have been stressing and sweating for the last 4-5 months, but a couple of days ago, (most of) the stress has been lifted!
Several months ago, my Lodge Master asked me if I had begun working on my Master Mason proficiency...I had not...

Right now in my lodge we have 2 1/2 masons learning their 3rd degree proficiency (I'm one), 1 member working on his 2nd degree proficiency, and 2 new members working on their 1st degree proficiency.
My lodge Master has dedicated Tuesdays at the lodge to degree work and proficiency study...so...
I will be an iPhone 5 zombie. My 3Gs phones are slow and buggy (and the battery life is very short these days). I put off upgrading when both the 4 and 4s came out...it's time for a change.
I purchased a Grotto fez on eBay just to get the fez case for my Shriner fez.
I tried to find some info about the Grotto, and am not having much luck...is it a defunct group?
I was hoping to find a Grotto member to see if they wanted the fez. I have no use for it.

I met with the President of my local Shrine Chapter last night for an hour, talking about different paths of masonic education and service beyond the 3 degrees of the Blue Lodge.
After hours of soul-searching and discussions with my wife over the last week, I believe the Shriners are what I am...
