Most in the United States are York Rite based Blue Lodges, but there are some like in NOLA which are Scottish Rite based. I saw a big difference in the 1st degree and the 3rd degree, particularly a large difference in the Hiramic legend.
Good luck. Tomorrow is Day 2 of the Boise York Rite Festival which co-hosts with 3 other Royal Arch Chapters, 2 Councils, and 1 Commandery. I am HP in Red Cross, Marshall in Malta, and GEN/EC in the Knights Templar.
I'm trying to see if we could get a team to come up to Idaho to confer this degree, but it definitely takes an effort. If I can't get it coordinated I plan on traveling to a jurisdiction who confers it.
If worn correctly the dress uniform is very impressive. The Cap & Mantle is just as nice. The history of the Templar Uniform is pretty interesting though
In Idaho we shortened and simplified the opening ceremony down so there wasn't so much useless marching.
