Welcome to the forums Graham. It's great to continue to hear that this site is influencing good men to become members and provide them with answers to their questions. I wish you the best.
I think that technically, it is possible to another lodge, but I hear that there is a long process to make it happen including approval from the Grand Master. I may be wrong though.
As far as I know everything is cool. Both GLs recognize each other, but currently there is no visitation. Plural membership would be great, but I'm fine with the baby steps right now! lol. I have personally met two members of the GL of TX. One of them was very friendly and told me about his...
Not my personal experience, but I can say that the some of the stories that have been told by PH masons about their interactions with Texas brothers are along those lines. Even heard of a member completely discouraging a candidate from petitioning a GL of TX lodge for the sake of feeling "more...
With new talks of visitation in Texas, how will the overwhelming number of clandestine lodges/GLs in our state affect future conversations you may have with men who may be PH masons? Even though it's unfair, there are many GL of Texas members that assume that a Black man is affiliated with PH...
I honestly don't think that racism is the reason behind the multitude of clandestine lodges and GL that exist in the United States. Your friend was giving you the correct information. At the end of the day, it would be in your best interest to research the history of your GL and also familiarize...
I may be wrong SeeKer.mm and hopefully towerbuilder7 will clarify, but I believe that he is talking about within the state of Texas, members from those two GLs are the only ones that are recognized.
For me its the lack of progress. I would love to see more technology, maybe even adapting to the way that this generation receives information (facebook, twitter, etc). Someone has to be putting out enough information to counter all of the foolishness that is found on youtube when you enter...
When a potential candidate asks about becoming a mason, do you give him the option to join the other GL in the state? Is there any information that you give them to point them in the right direction?
If we could somehow get visitation and recognition here in TX, I don't think that a brother would be required to renounce the old jurisdiction, at least I would hope thats how it works.
"Healing Over"
The crazy thing is that even when you present them with the findings of your research and are able to show them exactly why they are clandestine, they will argue you down that it is YOU who are clandestine. SMH.
What might be more accurate is actually just referring to them as spurious or clandestine GLs. Masonry isn't black and white, so African American AF&AM GLs isn't an accurate description. I too am a recently healed PHA brother from a local GL in the Houston area. In my experience, their stance...
There is a group on Facebook called Fighting Masonic Mis-Education that seems to be pretty good. There are PHA and "mainstream" (I really dislike that word) brothers there but more representation from the mainstream side would be needed. Just give another viewpoint to a lot of things and lets...
