    Petitioned the York Rite

Congratulations. You will thoroughly enjoy it. What you learn in the Chapter and Council degrees will fill out so much of the story you'll be amazed.

    Choosing Your Mark

As District Deputy Grand High Priest, I sent out a letter to all my Chapters earlier this year telling them to make sure their book of marks is up to date for all current members. Just a wild guess, but I'd say if 50 percent have actually recorded a mark, it's pretty good. I'm as guilty as...

    Choosing Your Mark

Mandatory, yes; kept on top of to see that it is done, no.

    Higher Degrees

That made me laugh out loud.

What was I supposed to say?

I don't think so. It sounds like a pretty good answer I'd be looking for. Maybe the guy you were talking to needs to ask himself why he wanted to become a Mason.

    Straight,Safety, Or Disposable Razor

My new shaving routine has been going on for a couple of months now. I really like it. I posted earlier that I found shaving to be a distasteful chore, but since joining the world of brushes and double edge safety razors, I find that I actually enjoy shaving each day. I can almost relate the...

Nostalgia for Men of a Certain Age

Good stuff, Rick. I agree wholeheartedly.

    New Harley for me??

That's a good looking bike. I currently have a 2007 Custom Sportster. It has the big tank and a set of Vance & Hines pipes, so I can ride for a while without stopping, and it sounds great. I am considering trading for a Street Bob. I love the looks of those bikes. The only drawback is I don't...

    York Rite College

I like the formality of YRC meetings as well as anything. It's nice to go to a meeting where suits or tuxedoes are mandated. We had a guy show up wearing shorts to this month's Blue Lodge stated meeting. I attended a Master Mason degree at another lodge where the candidate was wearing a flannel...

    York Rite of Kentucky

I don't know what the degree fees are for your local bodies (heck, I don't even know what they are for my local bodies!), but, unless you have been officially told otherwise, I suspect there is no difference doing them individually or in a festival. Dues are different at each...

Why I demited out of York Rite

Those uniforms that everyone seems to like, and I can probably be counted among that number, look a lot like the outfits worn by the Order of St. Thomas of Acon.

Why I demited out of York Rite

@JJones I didn't think you were coming off as rude. I was just trying to provide a response to each point. I do agree about the festivals being information overload. I don't think I took much away from the festival (it's been 20 years so I really don't remember); I got far more reading the...

Why I demited out of York Rite

JJones 1. I don't know that the degrees require that much more manpower. My district has 7 Chapters, and there are always people ready to do degree work. We have a very strong York Rite Association and a very strong York Rite College. I am very fortunate to be in a York Rite hotbed. 2. I'm not...

Why I demited out of York Rite

I am sorry to hear that as I personally feel the YR is the best part of Masonry. Here are some thoughts: 1. If you heart isn't into it, and certainly if dues are a financial strain, by all means demit. 2. Instead of focusing on the advanced age of membership, recruit some young blood. 3. I can't...

    Mason at sight ?

As others have said, I think there is some misconception about GMs making men Masons at sight. This is incredibly rare. The people who receive this honor are usually someone distinguished and have probably done some sort of service to the fraternity.

    Mason at sight ?

I don't know. If you were deemed worthy of such an honor, I wouldn't hide it. It's not as though GM's are just walking around laying hands on people and making them Master Masons. As I say, in 20+ years, I've heard of one instance in our state.

    Mason at sight ?

As far as I know, my jurisdiction offers such privilege to the GM. I have never met anyone who has been made a Mason at sight. The only time I have ever heard of it being done was a guy who had petitioned a lodge and then was called up to military service in Iraq. It wasn't as though the GM just...

    Station and Place Questions

Maybe it's probably a whole lot more simple. Station is used for the three primary elected* officers, and place is used for the appointed officers. It's just a turn of phrase to denote the difference with no deeper meaning. *yes, the secretary and treasurer are elected, but they don't play a...

    KT Regalia in Texas

I leave my chapeau and sword/belt at the lodge. Everyone else transports theirs to/from home each month. When asked why I leave it there, I respond, "Exactly where else am I going to wear it?"
