Why would you consider yourself a has been WM, I'm pretty sure you ran your Lodge accordingly, My hats off to you for your serve and dedication,,,/G\

In 10 days my term as WM will come to an end and I will be a has been.
Actually I will be moving to the Marshalls place to assist the incoming WM if needed.
It has been a good year and although I am glad it is almost over, I will miss it in a way.
LOL.
I've been through the chair 3 times. As a PM your job becomes lower profile but perhaps just or more important; to encourage the hell out of everyone, esp MMs, support and teach them, particularly by being an exemplar

WM Blake some time we think outside the box and wonder what if, but if we stand out there long enough we see an image of a man that gives a lot to what he believes. when I see 3 time PAST MASTER you must be doing something right...WISDOM/G\

Oh absolutely. I take all of my positions seriously. In our lodge, the immediate PM moves to the Marshal's place to be close to the new WM for assistance if needed. I have been diligently working with the incoming WM to get him ready for not only his installation day but also his year.

In my lodge, Jr.PMs are sent outside to become Tylers.
Strangely enough, it seems to satisfy everybody. Lol

Im a firm believer that the tyler should be one of the most senior members if the lodge. They know everyone. I was acting tyler one time and a brother came late and i didnt know him, i asked for his dues card, he didnt have it. I knocked and informed the JD that a brother was wothout that needed vouching for. He took a peak, giggled and said just a sec. Informed the WM. Opened the door back up and said let him enter. I found out later he was the IPGM. Never said anything to me untill after lodge when he commended me on following protcol.

My opinion runs in agreement with yours, brother.
But this is the way it's been done for years in my lodge.
I've voiced myself about it. They gave me an audience.
Nothing has changed about this in-house tradition so i've just let it be.
I would think that the lodge's newest PM need to sit inside not outside. He's more of an asset to his successor and the lodge if he remains inside.
Something that makes you scratch your head sometimes about people.

One of my two Illinois lodges has that tradition. I served two years in a row as WM there. By then I very much needed the peace of sitting at the door where all I had to do was take care of a candidate and/or fight off invading hordes with my sword. Not all that many invading hordes these days! ;^)
One of my Texas lodges (recently demit now I am down to one) has the opposite tradition. Put a Brother in the chair and see if he handles the small amount of ritual and floor work. Not as common an approach.
The rest of my lodges have the common tradition of a long standing Brother who knows everyone.

In every lodge ive sat in after the lodge is opened the tyler is invited in.
Some leave the door open and the tyler sits in the door way.
Some have the tyler come in and close the door.

Only for Stated meetings not degrees - That change came to Illinois while I was serving in the line so early 2000s. Super common tradition so I'm not sure why it took us that long to follow it.

Thanks, we email them. I've done some "radical" things as WM. Perhaps the biggest was moving the lodge night from Fri to Thurs. We always present such changes as a "trial" with review in 3, 6 and or 12 months. If something does not work, we'll change it back. Another way to do something radical is have an outgoing WM make such a change. The new WM endorses it - that new WM then does not own the "innovation" but is perpetuating a good idea, again on a trail basis. Most guys hate reading minutes, put it to a vote 6 months after no longer reading them, there's little chance of reverting back to having them read...
