Washington DC in May this year

Brethren, I'm looking for suggestions of things to see and do whilst in Washington DC later this year. I've got a couple of Lodge visits planned and am just waiting to hear back from the secretaries now that I have Grand Lodge of Scotland and Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia approval.

Travelling with my wife and sister, but they are not interested in my Masonic tour plans. The good thing about that is they can go do stuff they want to do and I can see the city from a Masonic perspective.

I have requested permission to attend Federal Lodge No. 1 and Compass Lodge No. 1811 during my stay in DC. as they have meetings scheduled during the time I am there, but am open to meeting brothers for a drink or 3 outwith these.

Well, this is going to be interesting, just been told that Compass Lodge No. 1811 is a Spanish speaking Lodge. I haven't used any Spanish since high school so may need to rethink the visit, or do I still go and use the experience to help fire my interest in the language?

I say go! Even if the ritual is unknown you'll still be with brothers.

Well, it's been well over a month since I contacted the 2 lodges and I haven't heard back from either of them. I know they have had at least 2 meetings since I emailed their secretaries, but don't know if that means they don't want me visiting, or if they just expect me to turn up now that I've told them I'll be there.

While I've only it in passing, I've always wanted to check out the George Washington National Memorial. Located just outside D.C. in Virginia (maybe 8 miles away), they offer daily tours for $14 with current dues cards from their supporting Grand Lodges.

I've always been told to have our lodge secretary email the other lodges secretary when looking to plan travel.

Oh well, at least I now know that Federal Lodge No. 1 is expecting me, still nothing from Compass Lodge 1811. May have to investigate visiting Naval Lodge No. 4 instead on the same night.
Thanks Brother

Thanks again, I made contact and I now have confirmation that Federal Lodge N0. 1 are expecting me and have their RWM's email address.
