Need Approval to Conduct Research???

An idea that I think could be of use to Masonry in the long run has crept into my brain a few weeks ago. It has been growing and growing and now I am at the point that I need to decide whether to advance on it or not.

Before I make that decision, I am needing to make sure that I can go about doing this. It is only doing some research and trying to gather and compile some data. I would like to be able to use many different means of getting the information including utilizing books from the GL's Library and also conducting interviews with willing Brothers in person and electonically.

My question is this, though. Do I need permission from the Grand Lodge or even from the Lodge of Research to be able to do something like this? Do I need to be a member of the Lodge of Research? Especially if I believe that it would be for the good of the Fraternity and would like to submit it to the Grand Lodge of Research or other sources, and maybe have it published somehow. I don't know too much at all about the Lodge of Research as their site while updated with content seems a bit out of date (in the way of navigation and design).

Any kind of help and information from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any informative links to give that would give me a better idea of what the Lodge of Research is about and does would be cool too.

Thanks, Brothers. I know with this knowledgable group of men, few things will fall threw the cracks when a Brother has questions.
