That's absolutely false. A great deal of the applicants these days likely do not know any members of the Lodge when they first contacted it.

Of the last dozen or so new members in our Lodge, Two of them knew a Brother coming in. Those two got to know him because they saw his vehicle and asked about the S&C emblem on the back of his his car,

Firstly, it is not a quick process to become a Freemason. So joining ASAP will likely not be practical. To begin the process, fond a nearby Lodge and contact them to express interest.
