It's on the GL website now. Nothing earth-shaking. We knew that the GM was going to recommend going back to one black ball. A couple of resolutions to institute a mandatory criminal background check on petitions. Someone wants to roll back the rule voted in last year that makes it a violation to insult a man's religion or race. One to make an automatic expulsion for conviction of misdemeanors involving moral turpitude. One to make any felony conviction an automatic disqualification to join. I expected to see a request to recognize the Widow's Sons organization, but it's not there.
That's what I was thinking. I know those things can be really expensive depending on how deep you want to go. What would happen if a person was to petition or ask for reinstatement that was in the military or something that held an active security clearance? Would that be enough to forgo the check?
I support the automatic expulsion for misdemeanor convictions and the automatic disqualification for felonies. If it goes back to one black ball, I don't have a problem with that either.
I don't think it will cost the lodge a thing...doesn't it say that the petitioner pays for the criminal history to be run?
A subscription to Public data dot com does not cost that much. That is just one of many searches one can do when assigned to an Investigating Committee.
In keeping with our tradition here at MOT we have sticky'd a thread for Resolution discussion. It has all of the proposed resolutions so we don't get several threads on the same thing.
