Following in my Father-in-Law's footsteps

Greeting brethren,

I've received some great news.

At our November installation meeting I shall be appointed and invested as Inner Guard. However, our current Inner Guard, who would normally progress to Junior Deacon, has had to bow out of the line because of personal reasons.

My father-in-law has volunteered to "plug the gap" and go in as Junior Deacon. This means that, assuming everything progresses as expected, I will be following him through all the offices up to and including that of Worshipful Master, into the Chair of which he will install me. I'm certainly looking forward to that prospect and I think he will be too, as he won't be able to install his son as he lives a couple of hundred miles away.

Out current WM was installed by his own father in a ceremony that I'm told was very emotional (I wasn't present as I'm not an installed master) and I hope that in a few years time I will be able to have that same experience!

What is an installer Master?

The current WM installs his replacement into the WM Office. So each Worshipful Master installs his successor. In Scoops case, as his FIL will be WM the year before him, his FIL will install him into the East.

By "Installed Master" Scoops is saying he is not in the East, nor is he a PM. Without being a WM or PM you can't take part in a significant portion of the installation of a WM.

BTW, This is awesome Scoops!

My Son in Law has expressed an interest in the Craft but has yet to get in touch with the Lodge where he lives. At the very least I will be in attendance at his Degree Conferrals, and hopefully can participate.

Indeed, that's exactly what I meant. I hope I can learn from his knowledge and experience as he's a mason of 25 years and Past Master of two other lodges.

Thank you for the kind words.

I hope you get to participate in any masonic career your son may have. Along with the possibility of installing me, my FIL raised me and participated in my advancement into mark by entrusting me with the secrets of the degree. I feel lucky to be able share the journey with him!

Congratulations Brother. I worked as Senior Warden for my son's first and second degree. I was the WM during his third and had the pleasure of raising him. It was a very emotional moment for me. I'm sure your father in-law will be proud to install you when you get to the East and it will be emotional for his as well.
