Well I am taking my EA proficiency exam this month. Sure has been a long road but hopefully it will get smoother. How proficient do you have to be? Do they put everything under a microscope? I'm pretty sure I'm going to miss a few words here and there but I know it. Has there ever been anyone denied from moving forward? Just curious and nervous.

How strict depends on your state and lodge, I suppose. Our rules say you "... must recite credibly ..." and for me, that means something different for every individual. I've taught and listened to guys who I knew could get it letter perfect, and that's what was expected. I've taught and listened to guys who "credible" for them was less because I knew that was about the best they can do. We don't have a checklist and a points tally. It's a judgement call for the lodge. Just like ritual, the important thing is understanding and delivery, not whether or not you said "a" when you should have said "the" at a certainly place.

That makes sense. I'm the only one of 7 who is going to do it I think. The brother who has been coaching me told me he was expecting me to be an instructor later on so I think they will look forward to me being very precise. But we shall see.

I'm still working very hard on my EA. And yes I've even missed a word here & there too. When I did my proficiencies for DeMolay I didn't even have a coach & had to teach myself. Thankfully I've got a great coach that is working me out like a prize fighter. Hopefully I'll be Passed sometime this summer

My 2cents. A good mentor will not let you proceed until you are ready. Remember that the honor you have already gotten by being initiated. When I proved my degrees I thought of it as an honor to the brothers to show them gratitude in return. No one is perfect, but you should try to be as close to it as you can. Mostly for yourself. Even tho you will not prove up again, it is hopeful that one day you will be playing a part in degree work at the lodge, and for that you want to be as proficient as possible for the candidate. Either way don't fret over it. If your mentor says your ready I'm sure you are. Best of luck brother. Remember every man at that communication has done it before.

I'm not aware of any. If your instructor doesn't know the lectures well enough to explain them, perhaps, once you become a Master Mason, you can find an instructor who can teach and explain them to you. We can't have TOO many Brethren who know and can give the Lectures!
