what happens to the members of a lodge when the charter is stripped? are they allowed to petition another lodge or do they go suspended?

Depends on the constitution of each jurisdiction when it comes to this topic. If a Charter is pulled, in some cases the Lodge is merged with another Lodge. In other cases, it leaves the members able to search out another Lodge and become a member of that Lodge. It leaves the members open on the records of the GL but sort of in limbo. If it is only the Charter pulled the membership if left intact.

The members are considered unaffliated Masons in the Grand Jurisdiction. They can obtain a certificate of Good Standing from the Grand Sec and petition for affliation with another Lodge, provided there are no charges pending against them.
