    Newsletter

Microsoft has tons of free downloadable newsletter templates at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=newsletters. I do our Lodge newsletter, and I just made my own. Nothing fancy, but it works. You can see it as a pdf on our website www.mankatomasons.org.

Finding out if ancestors were Freemasons.

Yeah, the Grand Lodge of Illinois responded to my email request by sending me a pdf copy of my grandfather's Masonic record.

    Aprons

I got them both from Macoy Masonic Supply (www.macoy.com) but I just looked through their web site, and no longer find that apron. I can tell you that they had that apron only in MM style, and a call to them easily got them to make it with the PM emblem inside the wreath even though it wasn't...

I did the above upload from the Android app on my Nexus 7 tablet. If the iPhone app is the same, start a reply to the thread, and there is a little photo icon on the top of the entry area. Click on that, and you should then be able to select a photo out of your own folders to upload along with...

    Aprons

Earlier in this thread I was asked for a picture of my white on white apron. This one is my PM apron; my MM apron is identical except, of course, for a regular S&C instead of a PM emblem inside the wreath. You can just click on the thumbnail to see it larger.

Yes and no. In most Grand Jurisdictions, a MM can certainly purchase a nice MM apron and wear it to lodge if he so desires, but the sad reality is that very few do, and most wear the above described dingy, wrinkled, cotton aprons from the stack by the tyler's station. I wish the tradition of...

    Helping a brother out

The almoner's fund in my Scottish Rite Valley is in very good shape, and the almoner is quick to cut a check when he finds out about a brother in hard straits.

    Symbols in Attire

And that's fine. It's far better to ask than to wonder why "we've always done it that way."

Brothers what is wrong with this picture.

I think what that says is what I already said, that the S&C cannot be trademarked.

    Symbols in Attire

Because until you're a MM you aren't qualified "to travel and work as such." You don't have enough information to represent the craft to "the profane." Besides, all the accoutrements you can purchase display the Square and Compasses in Master Mason form. I posted this link in another thread...

    Feast of Tishri - Houston

I wish I remember where I got the following material. I used it as a source in preparing my Venerable Master's talk at the beginning of last year's event. You might find it helpful:

He loves engaging in this type of debate. It's what he lives for. The best thing is just to ignore him.

    Scottish Rite Beginnings

I did a presentation on the history of the A&ASR on the first night of our new class in September that included more sources than what the Supreme Council has to say about it, but you asked what they say, so here's the link: http://scottishrite.org/about/history/

In June of 2010 I had the good fortune to make a trip to Scotland. I had already become "Facebook friends" with a Mason in Scotland who was Worshipful Master of his Lodge. The GLoS has four communications a year, and one happened to be at a time that worked for my trip, so he took me to Grand...

My PM apron is also white on white; I got it from Macoy. I got several compliments on it when I wore it at the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

There's room for Jesus in a Masonic Lodge; the individual Mason can bring Him to the Lodge in his heart. We just don't require anyone to believe that the only path is through Jesus in order to sit in Lodge with us. How they define the Grand Architect is up to them.

    My Concerns regarding Masonry

If you're referencing Brown's The Lost Symbol, from what I understand he got that from the 33° ritual of the obsolete Cerneau Scottish Rite.

What Lodge position do you currently serve?

Lodge Education Officer, which is an officially designated position in Minnesota, and not part of the "progressive line." Venerable Master of Scottish Rite Valley of Rochester.

    Strongly Discouraged...

Not so around here. The York Rite bodies have been doing one-day "festivals" I think they call them. In my SR Valley of Rochester, we don't do reunions at all; we confer or communicate all 29 degrees over a ten month schedule each year. The Minneapolis Valley to our north confers all 29...

    Strongly Discouraged...

I have to question why anybody would join a Masonic body that they have no intention of becoming active in, regardless of cost. Just to have another dues card in your wallet?
