Not that it has any Masonic meaning, but the plural of the directional compass is also compasses. Thus adding to the confusion many have about the word.
The new lodge could also do the rest of the work as a courtesy for the original lodge. Once raised the mason can apply to transfer. I'm not sure which is easier.
