A look at our national membership statistics

Well said Bro Benton. I know it's beating a dead horse, but how do you retain members? Some say quality over quantity, and they are not concerned about dwindling numbers. For the small town Lodges, filling chairs is becoming more difficult, and positions are just being recycled. Being fairly...

    Masonic Education

I'm glad you said it. I was under the assumption Lodge meetings were going to be and educational class. After going to 10-15, at different Lodges, and now a few out of State, I realized that is not the case. It wasn't just my Lodge. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the stated meetings for the...

    just raised

Can you PM your list. There are a lot of lists out there, I like seeing what Brothers have read and recommend. I've been bouncing back and forth between a book on Alchemy and Masonic myths.

    Masonic Education

Where does the majority of your Masonic education come from? Is it personal research and reading? Internet and forums? Stated meetings/floor school/degree work? Knowledgeable Brothers? I know the obvious answer is all of them, but I'm was trying to see where the bulk of the education came from.

    bustn caps

We received a new batch of Berettas recently. I wasn't happy to see them with the polymer guide rod though. They are a great and simple handgun. Snap to take down, clean, and reassemble. Plus, a lot of safety features for the not so proficient carrier.

Cell phone use in the Lodge

I visited a Lodge last night in Mississippi. One of the Brothers reminded me to turn my phone off. They had a $50 fine if it went off during a meeting.

    bustn caps

I spent 13 years in Security Forces/Military Police, most of it with the military working dog section. I just recently took on a special duty assignment that landed me in Mississippi. M&P was a great gun. I actually traded it towards my Sig 229. I chose it because you can buy a Sig factory 357...

    bustn caps

I think the Coast Guard is on point for switching to the 40 cal. I wish the USAF would. There were talks of switching to the new S&W M&P 40, but apparently is was all rumors. A lot of after action reports from down range say the 9mm just isn't cutting it. Don't get me wrong, the beretta is a...

What kind of Tyler's Sword do you use?

Lol. I started laughing when I read this. I visited another Lodge in our city, and the Tyler's sword was almost as tall as the Tyler. It was a huge Knights sword that he could barely carry. I asked, and it apparently had been with the Lodge since it was chartered. A very long time.

    Masons and the Military

With membership in our fraternity dwindling, I think it would be wise for the GLoT to authorize a Lodge in Afghanstan. I'm not saying every military member is perfect, but they normally display maturity and good principals desirable in Freemasonry. This might address the quality not quanity...

    My brother

There are a few Brothers in Lodge who I really look up to, and who dedicated a lot of their own time and efforts to helping me get raised. We are not perfect, and will definitely error as Masons, but it's Brothers like them that make me try a little harder to live by the principals of our...

    Plates are available.

I would assume this would fall under the same rules as wearing Masonic jewelry and displaying car emblems and so on. I think one should wait until they are a MM. I could be wrong.

What would you like to see changed in Masonry?

Cemab4y, This was a great post you started. I enjoyed all the responses. They were originally posted before I joined the site. As a fairly new MM I can see how lodge meetings can become somewhat boring and repetitive after many years of just listening to minutes and other normal business...

    Tlr

Just came across the Texas Lodge of Research site. Looked very interesting, however, can anyone shed some more light on the organization and what benefits there are to being a member?

A look at our national membership statistics

I wonder what contributed to the increase in Rhode Island and New Mexico. Although a small increase, it was decent for their already low membership numbers. It would be interesting to see what the statistics are for the PH grand lodges.

    Paper or Real

Our local OES comes and cooks the meals for us, which are great, and we typically put in 5-10 bucks per meal. It's their way of raising money, and since we have 2 meetings a month, they do well with about 15-20 members present at each meeting. It's all paper and plastic.

    concealed carry

I was just thinking the other day about my last CHL course, and how I was told a business, or other establishment actually has to post a sign on their building stating that concealed carry is not permitted if there is no legal reason why a person couldn't carry there. This does not pertain to...
