Re: Hipocracy
I think a lot of this has to do with the GM's prerogative. I know that a good friend of mine was given both a EA and a FC pin by the GM himself and was thus allowed to wear them, they are now on display at his lodge. If the GM OKs it, then so mote it be. With the MoD shirts, I...
Nice, don't sweat it. It's funny you say this because, I couldn't read your post on Monday because I was out at a FC practice, and participated in the actual degree tonight! Talk about synchronicity, and the proper degree for this topic as well!
See, I beg to differ. The reason we do...
Are you saying that M&D and FMfD are religious texts? If so, you are undercutting your position. :)
LOL!
Agreed.
Only academic. As a freethinking Mason, I have always questioned authority; which doesn't mean I never see the reason behind authority.
So are you saying that people would try to...
I think that this is the main argument against Freemasonry being a religion. It is that we do not teach you anything new. We do not expose you to different truths than that of your chosen religion. You must proclaim a belief in Deity before you can be made a Mason, therefore you MUST have at...
Philosophically speaking, they do not believe that in a Supreme Being, thus they cannot be made a Mason. Our requirements are thorough enough to keep out the more obvious rabble, we (the Craft) do the rest.
But not to hijack a good thread, academically I disagree with an anti-racism...
Good call.
And this is the explanation I am looking for. I have always heard Masons say, "We are not a religion", heck I have even fiercely defended that we are not. I would just like to know, what specifically makes us NOT a religion. Is salvation it?
It seems I need to read up on my monastic...
Well then, just for sake of argument, and I love playing Devil's Advocate...
Could Freemasonry stand on its own as a religion? Hear my arguments....
First we should look at the definition of religion...

I read it all the way through the MM, I didn't want to spoil any future light. I plan on reading it again soon. I"m not a huge fan of all of the political meandering, but hey, its an interesting read.
Trials and tribulations are rooted in the human condition, which is desire. For example, say if you have a family member that you feel it is your duty to "help", either with a personal problem, addiction, finance, relationship, whatever. Your life now has purpose. Meaning. You continue to help...
I've been out of the loop. Do we have a PM yet willing to submit a resolution to the GLoT? Maybe we could, on this very forum, scrounge up a resolution so a PM wouldn't have to? He could submit it, we could all get plates! :SNC:
I'm sure this is not a "sanctioned" "Holy Church of Atheism" Rite of Passage. I'm pretty sure that they are doing this as a joke. As Masons, we should understand the power of symbolism be it secular or otherwise. Even if it is a hair dryer.
Nobody seems to be doing it against their will...
