    Jolly Roger

This is such typical lunatic conspiracy theory.

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

You don't even have to put limits upon God to do that. There is a bizarre intellectual tradition in the West that presumes without question that God only acts upon necessity, that He only does what He has no choice but to do. God chose Abraham. Does that mean that God could never have chosen...

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

I can find Protestants who are vehemently anti-Masonic. Does that mean that Protestantism has an agenda against Masonry?

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

Protestants have PLENTY of dictatorial clergy who want the people to remain ignorant and blindly follow their various dogmatic pronouncements. An out-of-control religious hierarchy is not automatically Catholic. It can be 100% Protestant, even if the "hierarchy" consists of no more than a pastor...

    Jolly Roger

The momento mori is very widely used throughout European history. Supposedly, the phrase was used to someone who was given a Triumph in the Roman Empire. Going through the whole parade, cheered by the crowd, the hero had someone following him the whole time, saying "Remember, you will die." Once...

    Apron opinions?

Presentation with an apron... Maybe there's an esoteric apron as well as the exoteric, physical apron tied on over clothes.

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

Much like the biological term "cell" was adopted because a sample of cork looked at in an early microscope had "chambers" that reminded the observer of monks' "cells". We don't presume that every living organism is filled with tiny monks, though, and then invent flights of fancy upon such a...

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

ALL OF SCIENCE is "constantly altered". That's one of the things about science, it's not just a received dogma. Science has no agenda at all regarding God. None. No agenda at all. The idea that it has any sort of agenda on this topic is just propaganda promulgated by those who would keep us all...

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

Genesis 6:1-4 mentions "sons of God" marrying "daughters of men". However, traditional Jewish interpretation is that the "sons of God" were those people still of a "Godly" line--some of Seth's descendents, not angels. Christian scholarship likewise cites Christ stating that angels do not marry...

Do you believe in Darwinian evolution?

There is no such thing as "devolving" in biological evolution. There is no such thing as "better" or "higher" in biological evolution except when speaking loosely. If you think in terms of "evolve" vs. "devolve", you have no understanding of how evolution theory is used by biologists, none at all.

    Free Will

And it sounds like it could be quite valid, too--almost Greek in its tragic implications.

    Symbol?

There's also cleanliness and OCD. One is healthy, the other takes it far too far.

    Symbol?

The psychological term is "apophenia". It is the trait of inventing patterns out of anything, including random noise. At one time, it was considered prodromal to schizophrenia. It's now known to be far more widespread.

    The Last Guardian

This reminds me of a poem written years ago about the Watts riots. It mentioned signs that proclaimed this or that store had submachine-gun armed guards. They were untouched. The problem is that, when things break down, small-town police aren't equipped to handle it, even if they are more...

    Free Will

Without free will there is no moral responsibility.
  18. BryanMaloney

    Free Will

It's a rational choice. If you have no choice and no will, there is no point in exerting that will.
  19. BryanMaloney

    Free Will

This defines free will as omnipotence and nothing less. Compared to omnipotence, the "freest" man in the world is indistinguishable from the lowest slave.
  20. BryanMaloney

    Free Will

One could define "free will" so rigidly that only omnipotence qualifies as "free will". I would say that even the lowest status slave still has free will, although exercising that free will could likely have unpleasant consequences.
