I attended the NMJ 33° conferral in Cleveland last summer, just because I wanted to see their version. Yes, it's very, very different from the SJ. Now I want to see the Prince Hall Scottish Rite 33° if I can.

Brother Cook is correct; the 33° is NOT an honorary degree. The confusion stems from the title of Inspector General Honorary. That's because the title indicates that the recipient of the degree is an honorary member of the Supreme Council, as opposed to an active Sovereign Grand Inspector General.

The few studies that have been done show that one-day members stick around and are active at virtually the same rate as traditionally-raised Masons. And that has seemed to be our experience in my own lodge.

Yeah, I've read several reports that Ho was made a Mason in Paris when he was young, but I've never seen any citation. Do a Google search on "was Ho Chi Minh a Freemason" and you'll find some references.

I think he is looking for any American Masons who happen to be Vietnamese.

Replaced in the US by dues cards. That certificate doesn't tell whether someone is dues-current. People used to carry their Scottish Rite patents around in a case like that, and get brothers to sign around margins. Now mostly they are framed.
