I'm of two minds on the subject.
I prefer a medium lodge. I like when I see 25ish brethren on the sidelines not including officers. Lodge does not make better masons but Masons make for a better lodge in certain terms if that makes any kind of sense.
I've not been a Master Mason for very long...
Most people outside of masonry only know of the Square, compass and level as it has bled over into everyday usage and/or visible symbols that hang on our lodge or in the form of jewelery.
"He's a square guy."
"He is on the level."
Etc.
I like to go that route and point out how the fraternity...
You will be fine. I was a nervous wreck my first night.
The ceremony you will take part in is solemn and dignified.
Keep your ears open and try to listen to everything being said. You wont retain much that night but the overall emotion of your initiation will remain with you for a long time...
The lecture and charge is the essence of what defines a Freemason.
The whole point of the lecture, in my mind, was to inspire the new brother to expand their mind and learn.
I can understand cutting corners but degree work is suffering enough. As an example, proficiency work was cut back to...
I would recommend against this.
Visit another state if you wish to see variations on the oath :17:
It is a part of the New Jersey Master Mason proficiency exam.
The problem with BiB is that it is speculation. There is a point in the book where you can feel the author "reach" to make the connection from the back story of the lodon riots and the disbanding of the Templars to modern day freemasonry. Modern meaning the "coming out" of freemasonry in 1717...
Re: Will SJR Scottish Rite members be Clandestine
I think FIBrother's main concern is for states like Georgia that do not allow masonic communication to happen between PHA and Washington Masonry. According to the new ruling of the Scottish Rite, a Georgian SR mason is in full recognition with a...
Re: Question regarding "ongoing" fundraising and m
I do not have the constitution for our jurisdiction in front of me so I cannot comment.
Our lodge has applied for the necessary licenses from the state of new jersey. Our DDGM was there on an official visit when we discussed the calendars and...
Most lodges that are regular cannot initiate, pass or raise more than 5 people at a time without dispensation so you will usually see a max of 10 new initiates a year if they do an EA in the beginning of the year and an EA after coming back from summer break (if the lodge goes dark)
I was...
Re: Question regarding "ongoing" fundraising and m
It is a calendar lottery fundraiser.
We sell calendars and there is a monthly lottery. The winner gets a check in the mail.
It raises a lot of money but I feel it pushes some brothers away.
Do you notice a drop off in attendance at Lodge when a yearly fundraiser is pushed?
Also, We were supposed to have a Fellowcraft Degree last night but the EA had to back out for now because of a work schedule change (he is a police officer)
The sidelines were baron and we exemplified the FC...
sort of the same story here.
Freemasonry is different for every person. Once you make master mason, never give up trying to learn. Throwing a decal on your car and wearing a ring does not make you a master mason.
Masonry isn't just about learning about the fraternity's past. It is about being...
