Masonry claims to be a system of morality, a character-building endeavor. In my mind there can be few greater signs of moral character than to say “we will not tolerate this within our ranks, it violates the very heart of our society.”
Who you can visit is based on who your GL is in amity with, it has nothing to do with the initials. Even the simple answer Winter gave isn’t completely correct. A perfect example is Virginia; founded by lodges from multiple Grand Lodges yet they ended up AF&AM.

Collars and chains are very specific to rank in UGLE. There are multiple pages in the Book of Constitutions describing each.

Correct, Pennsylvania uses a different ritual than the rest of the US, with direct links to the Antient Grand Lodge.

We have the false groups seeking profit in the US, as well. They’re usually easy for a “state name” Mason to spot. We also have more established, honest seekers. In fact, the Grand Lodge of California will host the GM of the Women’s Grand Lodge of California in its speaker’s series next month.
