Why do people leave/ become inactive?

Yes, I contend that an open lodge is the utmost perfect time and place for that rather than in private. To make a few quotations from MacBride: "In the lodge there are two significant terms in common use. Money matters, election of officer-bearers, laws and bye-laws and such like, are called...

    Traditional observance

Illinois did it too (or did you mean Texas there)? The Texas recommendation gave a deadline of next year, correct? I'm okay with the Texas GM recommendation of adopting a standard format I guess. Better than out and out banning it.

    How u understand freemasonry teachings

Well, this is a deep topic, but an easy way to begin is ask him to cite his sources. That paves the way for educational and logical discussion on the topic. If he cannot provide any sources, then well, there you have it.

The Secret Teachings Of All Ages

While Hall was quite the writer, I do not believe he was much of a contributor to the ritual work of his day (or at all).

It's about time! (A good read)

I encourage all brethren to read this publication if you have not already seen it: http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/its_about_time.htm Even if you disagree with some or all of it, it discusses some good topics to digest and discuss. (I especially dig Part IV, point #2 & 3 in particular). It won't...

Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordinate lodges have a website?

Re: Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordina Unless a practical way to link the local search to the web site page could be achieved. My initial thought would be to create domain names for each lodge to attach to the local results that forward to the GL "lodge page". Something like that...

Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordinate lodges have a website?

Re: Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordina Honestly, I think the Grand Lodge website should just give each lodge a space for its meeting times, calendar of events, photos, etc on its own website and that is the "official" lodge site. It keeps order and provides the necessities of the...

    Minding the West Gate?

I think a lot of masons confuse initiating a mason by invitation with inviting them to come and learn more about masonry of their own accord. The former conflicts with several precepts and promotes cronyism while the latter is just plain smart for the successful growth of the craft IMO...

    Easy Green Bean Casserole

I've made this one for the past couple times my lodge has adopted families for the holidays as well as holiday lodge meals also at most family events. It gets requested nearly every time, strange... It's super easy to make (and super cheap) and never gets any bad reviews. Easy Green Bean...

    Minding the West Gate?

We use the phrase "guarding the west gate", but same topic. Masons have not been fully guarding the gate for some time and this is readily apparent when you see that so few members know nothing of the original aim or teachings of the Craft. Perhaps at some point Masons stopped guarding the west...

    Hirams key

Honestly man, I'd hold off on reading much of anything. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around not studying up on something, but you're better off IMO. Even from just reading the book perspective, you'll have the context necessary to appreciate that book better.

    Rosicrucians and Masonry

The Scottish Rite references Rosicrucianism in the same sense that it does so with Kabbalah, Confucianism, and others. The Scottish Rite (and likewise Masonry as a whole) do not propagate or promote *any* specific dogma, but does allude to/reference/talk about some of the principles in areas...

    Opening in an EA

Also consider this, in Texas you can open a "persistent" (I forget the actual wording) Lodge of Sorrow to be used throughout the year rather than having to do it every time it is needed. Boy you should see how bad the senior officers struggle to pull it off sometimes. The excuse is typically...
