Joined OES in 1973 (I think) in Sulphur Springs and was my wifes Worthy Patron at Ridglea #999 in 1992. Had a great time with the ladies and really enjoyed experience. However... the meetings are so very looooooong!

I assume that you mean their obligation will be "violated" if the members of the Grand Lodge were to write their own "official" codebook? Does the meaning of "unlawfully obtained" come into play here? Would it not be lawful if the governing body authorizes it and it's ownership is maintained...

I agree 100%. I have known brothers who were disappointed that their proficiency before the lodge was interrupted and the vote was positive before they could finish. The numbers game will make the fraternity weak over a period of time. Just my .02!
Code books, (called "cyphers") have been around for many years, written for each state. In many states, they are and have been "legal" to use, but not in Texas until recently when the Grand Lodge allowed them. Many, many MMs in Texas have used them through the years to maintain their fraternal...
