EDMOND — The University of Central Oklahoma Foundation received a $100,000 gift July 14 from The Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma. The gift will establish the Masonic Endowment for Transformative Learning, which will support a project that fosters transformative learning experiences for Central students, helping them become productive, creative, ethical and engaged citizens and leaders.

Grand Master of Masons Charles Belknap said supporting Central fits the organization, as the Freemasons have been a proponent of public education since the country began.

“We are very aware of the outstanding job done by the University of Central Oklahoma and we want to assist them in their efforts. We are confident this fund will enhance not only the academic experience for students but will also enrich the entire state,†Belknap said.

John Logan, executive director of the Masonic Charity Foundation, said the endowment is one of six gifts — all going to regional universities in Oklahoma.

UCO President Roger Webb said he believes the gift will have an enduring, positive impact on students at Central.

“This generous gift from the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma will allow us to incorporate the transformative learning process that places students at the center of their own active and reflective learning experiences,†Webb said.

“In addition to learning about their chosen subject in the classroom, students will have opportunities to learn leadership, to engage in research, creative and scholarly activities, to connect with their local and global communities and to discover healthy lifestyles.â€

The UCO Foundation was established as an independent 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization in 1972 to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students and support for faculty, campus activities and vital programs at UCO.
