How to join freemasonry in Egypt

Hello Brethren,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am a 19-year-old university student from Egypt with a profound interest in Freemasonry. Over the past few years, I have delved deeply into Masonic literature and principles, and I am genuinely captivated by the wisdom, fraternity, and moral guidance that Freemasonry offers.

Unfortunately, the situation in Egypt presents significant challenges for those interested in joining the fraternity. Freemasonry has been banned in Egypt since 1964 due to governmental concerns and political reasons. As a result, there are no active lodges in the country, and the practice of Freemasonry is largely suppressed under the current regime. This creates a difficult environment for individuals like myself who are eager to join and contribute to this esteemed brotherhood.

Despite these obstacles, my dedication to Freemasonry remains unwavering. I am reaching out to seek advice and guidance from the esteemed members of this forum on how I might navigate this situation. Are there alternative ways for someone in my position to become involved or connected with the Masonic community, even if indirectly? Would it be possible to join a lodge in a neighboring country or participate in any recognized online Masonic activities given the restrictions here in Egypt?

I am not seeking fame, fortune, or any material benefits. My sole desire is to gain wisdom, engage in brotherly fellowship, and contribute positively to the world, in alignment with Masonic principles.

Any advice, recommendations, or shared experiences would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Fraternally,
Youssef Saber

Unfortunately, most Regular jurisdictions have a residency requirement prior to submitting a petition to join Freemasonry. Often it is something like six months to a year. So you would need to move to a country that permits Freemasonry and live there for the required time to join. And since there is no way to join online or remotely you will only be able to take part in superficial discussions online until then. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

There is freemasonry in Egypt, but it is not considered ”regular.” It is not accepted by the mainstream of freemasonry.

As noted above, there is no way to affiliate except in perso.

Dear Brother Glen,

Thank you for your informative and thoughtful response. I appreciate the clarification regarding Freemasonry's status in Egypt and the distinctions between "regular" and "irregular" lodges.

I am keen to learn more about the possibilities within these existing lodges, even if they are not recognized as "regular." Any additional guidance or resources you could share on how to approach these lodges would be immensely helpful.

Thank you once again for your assistance.

Fraternally,
Youssef Saber

I will note that we are not Masonic brothers.
As you are in Egypt, you would be better able to obtain information.
