I was wondering where you were when I didn't bump into you. I hope things are better now.
The Four Black Llamas is an order based on actual events. That's all I can say.
Many brothers in my state have taken it, but I've never been around when it has been conferred. I am a member of the Masonic Order of the Four Black Llamas. You can get it on the Sunday night of the York Rite Summer Assembly in Maggie Valley, N.C.
I've never had a problem with the fact I wasn't eligible. Their requirements were for Os and E7s-up. The fact that I was an E4 and didn't meet the requirements is on me, not the organization. I was fine with that. If the NS are expanding membership for the right reasons, OK; if they are doing it...
I recently just got this and love it. I like it because it is a Chapter ring and also has a S&C on it (the revers side has a keystone). It has the look of a sports championship ring, which I like because I am a coach.
The YR has a study program as well; it is called the Companion Adept of the Temple program. I highly recommend it.
One thing to consider, and this I'm sure isn't 100 percent accurate for all locations, but most YR bodies meet at the local level, so there is a strong connection to the Blue...
Obviously, I am partial to the York Rite. If you only chose one, I'd day YR. If you chose to do both, I suggest YR first. The YR has a direct link to the Blue Lodge degrees and will actually help add to your Masonic foundation. The Chapter and Council degrees give you information you do not yet...
Does anyone use a fountain pen? I recently purchased a coupe of cheap disposable fountain pens and like the way they write. It makes your signature look very nice. I am now in the market for a nice keeper fountain pen that will last a long time. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd prefer to...
We confer all our degrees, and to be honest, I'd put our lodge up against any in the state. We confer quite a few degrees, so we get plenty of practice.
Our York Rite College also has a third degree team that travels to confer the MM degree when requested for special occasions.
I have made that suggestion, but I haven't had much success.
Someone always says ... "But the Code says..."
To which I reply ... "But common sense says ..."
Ours really aren't. Most everything we do is taken care of in the Chapter. The Council is just open, read the minutes and treasurer's report, then close. We've already taken care of everything as far as communications, etc. We have had ballots the last two months.
*Ballotting in both the...
I travel quite a bit, perhaps more with the Chapter and York Rite College than Blue Lodge these days. Traveling is really one of the best parts of Masonry. When you bump into someone you haven't seen in a while, and it's like old home week or a family reunion, it is a fun time. It seems like...
We have a 15-20 min (probably) slide show with a brother giving a long explanatory lecture with those two degrees. While in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't add up to that much more time, but I just feel the candidates don't get a whole lot out of it after everything else that has gone on...
I honestly can think of any pros to the scenario. It is if you are turning the Blue Lodge into the YR festivals and SR reunions. I prefer one candidate at a time. We can't do more than one in any of the first sections. I'm not in favor of assembly line Masonry. In fact, my Chapter is actively...
To me, there is a fine line you have to consider with newly made MMs, and the line is different on a case by case basis.
You want to give your newly made MMs an office or something to do to keep them interested, but you don't want to burn them out. I also hesitate putting new MMs right into...
In our lodge, the trustees are the five most recent past masters. It's automatic. Someone comes off; someone goes on. Being a trustee isn't really considered an office. It falls under the category of committee, I suppose.
Holding offices in the Blue Lodge and appendant bodies at the same time...
I second it being a good Navy term. It's not a new word. I first heard it more than 25 years ago. I am a high school teacher and use it almost daily when I need students to read!
Glen, you a Navy vet? Me: USS Joseph Hewes (a Mason!); USS South Carolina.
Great. I like the Mark Master degree as well as any in Masonry. The lessons it teaches go without saying. You'll like the Most Excellent Master degree. It is impressive.
